Achieving this income typically requires experience, a commercial driver's license (CDL), and sometimes additional endorsements or skills in logistics and safety protocols.

What's the highest paying CDL class B job?

The highest paying CDL Class B jobs typically involve specialized hauling such as hazardous materials, oversized loads, or tanker trucks, which often require additional certifications and experience. These roles can offer higher wages compared to standard delivery or local driving positions, especially in industries like construction, oil and gas, or waste management.

Job Description Summary

Role Overview: Field Operator & CDL Class B Driver

Are you seeking an entrepreneurial, empowering workplace that allows you to leverage your technical expertise while developing new skills? Sunbelt Rentals is the fastest-growing rental business in North America, and our Trenching Division is seeking a highly skilled Class B CDL Driver.

This is not a traditional "drop-and-go" delivery role. As a key member of our Trenching team, you will act as a field equipment operator. You will be responsible for the safe transport, rigging, and precise placement of complex trenching and shoring equipment using a mobile truck crane. You will work directly with our customers at their job sites, ensuring that equipment is offloaded, positioned, and staged according to their specific project requirements.

Why this role is different:

  • Active Field Operation: You are the face of our division on the job site. This is a hands-on position that involves manual labor, equipment rigging, and crane operation, not just driving.

  • Crane Proficiency: You will operate a mobile truck crane to load and unload heavy trenching equipment. Precision, spatial awareness, and a deep understanding of load dynamics are required daily.

  • Customer Partnership: You will assist customers with site-specific needs, demonstrating safe equipment usage and troubleshooting minor technical issues to keep their projects running on time.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Mobile Crane Operation: Operate mounted cranes to load, unload, and stage trenching and shoring systems safely and efficiently.

  • Rigging & Securement: Expert knowledge of load securement, chain/strap usage, and rigging techniques to ensure the safety of equipment during transit and offloading.

  • Field Troubleshooting: Perform on-site inspections and minor mechanical repairs to ensure equipment operational safety.

  • Delivery & Logistics: Drive heavy-duty commercial vehicles (Rollback or Tandem Axle) through varying terrain and high-traffic construction zones.

  • Documentation: Accurately complete inspection reports, log books, and customer delivery/pick-up paperwork in compliance with D.O.T. and Sunbelt safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Valid Class B CDL with an acceptable driving record.

  • Required: Ability to perform manual labor, including bending, squatting, crouching, and lifting 50+ pounds.

  • Required: Strong understanding of load securement, DOT regulations, and construction site safety protocols.

  • Preferred: Demonstrated experience operating mobile truck cranes in a construction or industrial environment.

  • Preferred: Prior experience in the trenching, shoring, or underground utility industry.

  • Preferred: Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn specialized equipment operation.

Physical Demands: This role requires significant physical activity, including working outdoors in various weather conditions, climbing on and off equipment, and utilizing manual tools to secure loads.

Sunbelt Rentals is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran and any other protected class.

Base Pay Range: $27.65 - 41.48
