Job description

The Project Superintendent, Design Build is the primary field leadership position for projects and is foundational to our projects' success, specifically in the areas of safety, cost, quality, scheduling/planning, site management, authorities having jurisdiction, key trade contractor, and Owner stakeholder coordination. They will oversee construction and flow of work of the project in the field, provide leadership to field foreman, Clark Pacific's self-perform work, and key trade contractors and assure successful completion of the work. The Project Superintendent is accountable to the (Senior) Project Manager to assure the project's success factors are met on time and within the safety, quality, and financial objectives established.
Competitive Compensation Range: $125,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive relationship with all stakeholders including clients, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and Clark Pacific employees.
  • Lead people to create an efficient and effective workforce actively demonstrating the values of Clark Pacific.
  • Plan the work and work the plan - lead the planning, integration, and coordination of Clark Pacific's self-perform and key trade contractor scopes of work and coordinate with design and owner's stakeholder teams.
  • Lead the compliance of Clark Pacific's EHS policies and procedures including compliance with all OSHA regulations for all project stakeholders, posting and implementation of all applicable Safety programs and EEO/Affirmative Action Programs.
  • Understand rights and obligations to applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Lead quality: monitor all relevant quality metrics and initiate improvement actions as required.
  • Lead the management of Clark Pacific's site, field, and key trade labor forces to achieve optimum performance.
  • Lead in the documentation of field activities and assure accountability of performance.
  • Direct all field personnel to achieve completion of the projects on schedule, within budget and with quality workmanship that conforms to all current plans and specifications.
  • In concert and alignment with (S)PM, review and understand project (with emphasis on field related) budgets, including material budgets, company purchases, purchases orders, and rental rates. Manage and monitor project costs and develop project specific areas for cost improvement.
  • In concert and alignment with (S)PM, coordinate and manage (extra) work.
  • Lead development of detailed CPM Schedules, i.e.: prepare and maintain construction schedule (baseline, prep and issue 6-week look-ahead, participate in monthly updates), identify and resolve constraints and issues.
  • Develop and lead OFCI coordination efforts.
  • Lead in the scheduling of inspections, as necessary, throughout the construction process.
  • Understand and pre-plan all project plans and specifications to assure alignment with submittal requirements, procurement processes and long lead supply chain material and equipment deliveries.
  • Lead coordination effort with Commissioning Agent.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and clean job site, including the construction office.
  • Assist in pricing and scheduling pursuits, provide constructability during design phase development on projects.
  • Understand and assist in the development of detailed Scopes of Work, Instructions to Bidders (ITB), site coordination plans, and other applicable exhibits in Front End (ITBs) documentation.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents.
  • Train and monitor progress of all field management staff.
  • Provide leadership in quality process.
  • Assure accurate/timely documentation of daily construction activities.
  • Chair weekly key trade contractor coordination meetings.
  • Assist/support Project Engineers in coordination, shop drawing, and submittal processes.
  • Verify that As-Built drawings are kept current.

Work Environment
  • General field and office environment will be experienced.
  • There will be routine exposure to construction and manufacturing environments which may present hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery.
  • There will be routine exposure to outside weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat, wet and/or humid environments.

Physical Demands
  • Frequent Sitting at desk, utilizing computers and phones, standing, and walking.
  • Periodic: Repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements
  • Occasional: Business travel. Bending squatting, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

Experience and Education
  • 5-7 years previous experience in the construction industry,
  • 3 in a Superintendent role is required.
  • An undergraduate degree with a specialization in construction management or civil engineering is preferred.
  • Parking structure experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management preferred.
