Job description

The Advanced Analytics Modeler translates raw data into actionable business information.

This role, in the Advanced Analytics Department, applies economic, quantitative, and statistical skills in the development of pricing, underwriting, sales, and claims models to achieve profitable growth and make sound business decisions across all areas of Sentry Insurance.
This position can be filled as an Advanced Analytics Modeler I or Advanced Analytics Modeler II based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

This position will be located at our Office in Stevens Point, WI in a hybrid work model and is not a fully remote opportunity.

For this position, Sentry does not offer employment to holders of F-1, J-1, and H-1 Visas.

What You'll Do

  • Build comprehensive analytics solutions to improve business outcomes such as pricing accuracy, resource efficiencies, business workflows, and identification of trends and opportunities.

  • Identify data sources and build raw data queries in Snowflake, SQL, or Python.

  • Construct processes in Python to run raw data queries, perform data transformation, execute predictor and target variable calculations, and assemble final predictive modeling datasets.

  • Apply data science tools and various statistical techniques such as regression, generalized linear models, gradient boosting and neural networks to build, validate, and implement models for solving business problems.

  • Communicate with business stakeholders throughout the modeling process to account for relevant business considerations and align the solution with the business outcomes.

  • Create data visualizations in Tableau to communicate model performance, variable importance, impacts, and other tools to assist end users in understanding and using the analytics solutions most effectively.

  • Collaborate with modelers, actuaries, and data analysts in Advanced Analytics to review and share diverse ideas to improve analytics solutions.

  • Monitor existing models and processes to ensure performance and data quality.

What It Takes

  • Degree in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field. Master's degree, a relevant postgraduate certificate or equivalent work experience preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience preferred.

  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software tools, Python is preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of data extraction, validation, and practical application of statistical modeling techniques.
