Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Supervisory General Engineer (Analysis Section Chief), NH-0801-04 to work in the Nuclear Mission Assurance Division at Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque, NM.
This position is a NH-801-04 position which has a typical 2026 salary range of $127,141 -$194,417 (with locality).
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Air Force Nuclear Red Team (AFNRT) Analysis Section Chief. This position is responsible for the Analysis Section resources to include manpower and funding, analysis on Air Force nuclear weapon systems, assisting the AFNRT Chief in developing future study plans, providing guidance to analysist, coordinating on nuclear mission thread modeling, and communicating findings to senior leaders.
SKILLS:
• Candidates must have a college degree in engineering (or satisfy other qualifying criteria as described below). Candidates must have at least one year at the NH-03/GS-13/DR-02 grade, or industry equivalent.
• Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant technical experience to include experience leading working groups or teams of highly educated, multi-discipline civilian, military, and/or contractors.
• Candidates must have a strong background in multiple scientific/engineering disciplines.
• Candidates must have demonstrated success in resolving complex, ambiguous systems engineering problems through technical expertise and modeling & simulation.
• Candidates must have demonstrated experience in working effectively with multiple DoW, DOE, academic and private industry organizations.
• Candidates must have demonstrated success integrating disparate organizational expertise and subsequent products into a cohesive assessment.
• Ideal candidates should have:
* One or more advanced degrees (M.S., Ph.D.) in engineering and/or physical sciences
* Experience with Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling. (AFSIM)
* A strong understanding of nuclear weapons effects environments (thermal, radiation, blast and EMP).
* A strong background in Failure Analysis modeling tools and techniques to include Subject Matter Expert Vulnerability Analysis (SMEVA), System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), and Formal Methods Analysis.
* A strong background applying Risk Management and System Engineering.
DUTIES:
• Supervises AFNRT Analysis Section team members.
• Manages government and contractor team's work assignments, tracking progress, evaluating work products, mentoring team members, implementing process development/improvement, and performing all other supervisory responsibilities for assigned government employees.
• Oversees nuclear mission modeling for system survivability against a variety of threats.
• Leads System Vulnerability Assessments (SVAs), as required; to inform nuclear weapons stakeholders. (SVAs will be conducted in parallel to other assessments and will be used to inform key stakeholders regarding design, operational, and safety certifications requirements as well as employment constraints).
• Examines safety and security initiatives, protection measures and processes for possible exploitable vulnerably opportunities across platform, system, and organizational lines.
• Establishes and directs project proposals, planning and reporting of technical and financial progress, and long-range planning.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

• Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Special Access Program (SAP), and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

• Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management "Practitioner" certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
