Job description

Overview
The Civil Design Engineer is responsible for developing high‑quality, detailed design packages and providing engineering, procurement, and field technical support for the implementation of those designs. This role supports plant facility improvements, troubleshooting, and technical assessments while ensuring all work adheres to engineering standards, codes, and best practices. The Civil Design Engineer works collaboratively in integrated project teams and may serve as technical lead for multidisciplinary tasks.


Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Execution

  • Develop complete, high‑quality civil design packages for plant facilities and infrastructure.
  • Provide engineering procurement support, including development of material specifications and technical evaluations.
  • Deliver field technical support during construction, installation, and implementation of civil designs.
  • Apply technical expertise and established engineering practices, codes, and standards to develop solutions for a wide range of complex civil engineering problems.
  • Prepare and support designs involving stormwater systems, storm drain modifications, road design, soil evaluation, and coordination with outside engineering firms.

Field Activities & Facility Support

  • Perform routine walkdowns of existing plant facilities to gather data, validate field conditions, and generate accurate design documentation.
  • Provide real‑time support to craft personnel and field teams during installation and construction activities.
  • Conduct technical assessments and troubleshooting of civil systems to resolve facility issues.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work effectively as part of an integrated project team or serve as a technical lead for multidisciplinary engineering tasks.
  • Provide input and guidance to system engineers, project managers, and other plant customers.
  • Coordinate with internal clients, production organizations, support staff, management, and hourly workforce to ensure successful execution of design activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in civil engineering principles, codes, and consensus design standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a production environment and perform regular walkdowns in plant facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with stormwater and drainage design, road design, soil evaluation, and management of external engineering firms.
  • CAD drafting experience (not required but beneficial).
  • Experience providing field engineering support in industrial or production environments.
