DESCRIPTION:

As aCivil/Structural Design Engineerat Frontier-Kemper, you will have the opportunity to: be an integral member of the Engineering Division at Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc.The Civil/Structural Engineer will work on mining and heavy civil construction projects as well as hoisting equipment projects.Design work will include construction plan preparation, hoisting equipment design and manufacture, mining shaft and slope design, and construction support for all aspects of mining and heavy civil construction projects.The Civil Engineering team works as part of an in-house multi-disciplinary technical unit that supplies design, analysis and consulting services for both internal and external customers.In this role, the Civil/Structural Engineer will interact with peers, consultants, outside vendors and clients, as appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design civil/structural systems, structures and components.

  • Assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures and components.

  • Provide technical support to the Civil, Mining and FKC - Lake Shore Divisions.

  • Assist with project planning and technical quotes for systems, structures and components.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards related to civil/structural systems, structures and components.

  • Assist in responding to site-based requests for information, including analysis and recommendations.

  • Prepare and present project documents including calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.

  • Travel to site, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • A minimum of 3- 10 years of work experience, preferably in a field related to underground construction and/or mining.

  • A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or able to register as a licensed P.E. within 2 years.

  • Experience in design of reinforced concrete structures and steel structures.

  • Geotechnical engineering and/or support of excavation (SOE) design experience is desirable.

  • Proficient in preparation of structural calculations utilizing structural analysis software and hand calculations.

  • Demonstrated logical problem-solving skills, including conceptual and analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor software is desired.

  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis software would be an asset.

  • Advanced computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software.
