Job description

Wilson Engineering is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team. We are a civil engineering consulting firm serving municipal clients throughout Washington and Alaska, with a focus on water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, and public infrastructure projects. This position is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving practical problems, working directly with communities, and contributing to projects from planning through design and construction.

Position Summary

This position will assist with the planning, design, permitting, and construction support of municipal infrastructure projects. Work may include water systems, wastewater collection and treatment, pump stations, stormwater facilities, roadways, site civil improvements, and related public works projects.

The ideal candidate is technically capable, detail-oriented, communicative, and interested in growing within a collaborative consulting environment. Depending on experience, this position may include design production, technical analysis, report preparation, construction observation, coordination with clients and agencies, and project management support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, technical memoranda, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Assist with design of municipal water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, and site civil projects.
  • Support preparation of preliminary engineering reports, facility plans, alternatives analyses, and funding documents.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, drafters, electrical/control systems staff, subconsultants, contractors, and public agency staff.
  • Perform site visits, field investigations, and construction observation.
  • Assist with permitting and regulatory coordination, including local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, pay requests, and construction documentation.
  • Participate in client meetings, project coordination meetings, and public works discussions.
  • Help maintain project schedules, budgets, and quality control standards.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, team members, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Desired Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience in civil engineering design preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred
  • Experience with municipal infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling, GIS, or other engineering design tools is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Willingness to visit project sites and assist with construction-phase services.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position is $113,000 to $160,000 per year, depending on qualifications, licensure, and experience. Wilson Engineering offers a competitive benefits package, which may include:
