Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsible for the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 4,800 miles of pipeline, over 11,000 fire hydrants, and approximately 860 wastewater pump stations.
The Field Services Division is seeking well ¿ qualified individual to fill the Senior Engineering Inspector position.
Job Description
General Functions :
Performs senior level inspections of projects assigned to the Utilities Field Services Division. This is senior level work which is performed under field conditions. An employee in a position assigned to this classification is required to be well experienced in all aspects of the construction, documentation, and inspection of commercial, residential, and new development utilities projects, work performed in easements and rights-of-way by contractors and provide supervision and training of assigned Engineering Inspectors.
This position is required to communicate with contractors and developers while ensuring projects are constructed per Orange County Standards, while supporting immediate response to field issues and assistance to the Chief Inspector. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the assigned Chief Inspector.
Representative Duties /Assignments
  • Responsible for the guidance and training of Engineering Inspectors for detailed inspection for compliance with specifications, standards, drawings and terms of work performed by developers and private contractors.
  • Schedules, observes and approves contractor's materials, installation and verification testing of assets including coordination of laboratory or onsite field testing as required for civil and mechanical construction per Orange County Standards and Specifications.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining LDMS entries, daily report, photographic record and red line drawings/specs to document all deviations, conflicts, changes and clarifications for the project.
  • Assists contractors in the interpretation of construction drawings and specifications, and clarifications from the Chief Engineer, Chief Inspector, Development Engineering and/or EOR, when necessary.
  • Ensure all projects are constructed per Orange County Standards.
  • Support immediate response to field issues on Development projects.
  • Assists with final inspections necessary for the issuance of the Certificate of Completion and the Year End inspections necessary for the issuance of the Acceptance for Maintenance by Orange County.
  • Communicates with the general public by discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the assigned Chief Inspector.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent and five (5) years of construction inspection experience to include two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license.
Must satisfactorily complete Contractors' Underground Utility Examination for inspectors within six months from date of entry into position
Preferences
  • Construction Inspection Experience with Utilities and Developer commercial and residential projects.
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) intermediate level certification.
  • Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control course completion.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour General Safety and Health Training.
