Civil Engineer - Site
Summary:
The Civil Engineer will provide design and plan production for general civil design on a wide variety of projects, which may include site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities. Will perform complex assignments, exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform engineering calculations in support of civil engineering design projects
  • Manage projects including client communications, public input and feedback, and internal support
  • Perform AutoCAD Civil 3D design/drafting in support of civil engineering design projects
  • Performs, trains, and provides guidance for site investigations, survey work, CAD work, and data collection
  • Prepares, provides training, provides guidance, and reviews engineering designs and reports, which include design calculations and plan preparation
  • Performs, provides training for, and guides quality assurance, ensuring projects get carried out as designed, and recommends modifications as needed
  • Ability to identify engineering and surveying services needed by the client, and the ability to draft proposals and estimate fees
  • Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals
  • Write and edit construction specifications and engineering reports
  • Tabulate bid items and calculate construction bid quantities from plans and specifications.
  • Estimate construction costs. Conduct periodic visits to construction sites to monitor the quality and progress of the work

Required Skills & Behaviors:
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in all work tasks
  • Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of working with a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and technicians
  • Broad computer knowledge, in particular Microsoft Office products
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Mentoring capability
  • Broad knowledge base of civil engineering projects, rather than a subject matter expert in any one civil engineering area

Organizational Relationships:
  • Reports to the Regional Engineering Manager
  • May have responsibility for multiple direct reports

Required Education/Experience:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university degree program is required
  • 5+ years' experience in construction or civil engineering field
  • Active PE License or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
