Job description

Dewberry has an immediate full-time opening for a Civil Engineer in the Owings Mills (Baltimore), Maryland office. The selected candidate will become part of a growing team that practices total project consulting and provides complete, comprehensive services to a variety of commercial utility and energy infrastructure clients.

This position requires engineering knowledge and breadth/depth of experience capable of moving projects from concept – preliminary design – final design – issued for construction - as-builts, including quality control reviews for engineering by others.  We’re looking for someone who has a good understanding of public agency requirements, and a successful site/civil engineering track record.  Desired market knowledge and project experience will include energy civil infrastructure (gas and power), industrial, institutional, and commercial site/civil engineering ideally in the mid-Atlantic area with an emphasis on the Baltimore, Washington, DC corridor.

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for design, engineering, and quality control for all aspects of a project, including code review, demolition, site layout, grading, sediment and erosion control, stormwater management, water, sewer, storm drains, force mains, roadways, maintenance of traffic, dry utilities (gas, power, telecom, fiber), site details and preparation of all associated calculations, reports and spreadsheets. The Civil Engineer will also assist with developing and adhering to project budgets and schedules.

  • Engineering plans, calculations, and reports quality control review.
  • Lead project engineering and design on projects.
  • Represent Dewberry and projects with city, county, state, and federal agencies.
  • Project work will span utility- storm drain, sanitary sewer, water, and conduits- design, plans and profiles, stormwater management and erosion and sediment control design, maintenance of traffic, layout, grading and earthwork, cost estimating, plan and permit processing, and technical writing.
  • Assists with preparation of weekly schedules and task coordination.
  • Assists with training/mentoring of staff.
  • Coordinates design review process and permitting through outside agencies and assistance with client coordination.

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (design-based degree)
  • 10+ years of experience in design and construction of site/civil, land development and infrastructure projects; experience in Wilmington, Baltimore and Washington DC corridor is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland, or ability obtain in 6 months, with Washington, DC and Delaware desired.
  • Highly proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and Microsoft office applications – Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint. 
  • Excellent understanding and use of hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
  • Strong written, oral, and graphic communication skills required for effective interface with public agencies, clients, sub-consultants, and staff.

The projected range for this position is $109,550 to $125,200 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly. These ranges are for Baltimore, MD only.
