Job Summary:

This position is for a Civil Engineer who will prepare designs for earthwork, underground commodities, roads, foundations, profiles associated NS&E (Nuclear, Security and Environmental) GBU (Global business unit) projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”

Major Responsibilities:

This role will support design development civil engineering designs by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other civil engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in executing design development and producing design documents for government customers in accordance with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide, including drawings, UFGS specifications, and calculations.

    • Development of grading and backfill design and drawings.
    • Road design and design documents.
    • Foundation design and drawings.
    • Assist with boring oversight, and site inspection and review of existing facilities.
    • Perform formal calculations and drawings.
    • Originate and check civil deliverables of high complexity, including specifications, drawings, reports and calculations.
    • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
    • Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
    • Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
    • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
    • Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
    • Participate in project design/model reviews.
    • Participate in constructability reviews.
    • Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
    • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
    • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in executing work as an integrated team.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​
  • US citizenship is required
  • Must have PE License in the United States or ability to obtain PE within 12 months.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience using Civil3d
  • Experience with Microsoft office programs, VISIO, and other common computer programs.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Relevant experience includes related specifications.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Civil engineering design principles. 

Preferred Skills:

  • MS degree in Civil or related Engineering, from an accredited university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Civil Engineering).
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
  • Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
  • Experience with use or knowledge of Revit and/or InRoads.
  • Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
  • Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
  • Experience in complex excavation approaches and construction execution, field experience is preferred.
