ABOUT THE POSITION

Civil Structural Engineer | Substation/Energy | Hybrid

VHB's growing Energy Evolution Practice | VHB reflects our commitment to supporting the global transition to clean, sustainable energy solutions. VHB supports clients throughout the project lifecycle with their generation and delivery needs, bringing decades of experience in the assessment, engineering and design, permitting, mitigation, and compliance services associated with energy infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design substation structures and foundations.
  • Collaborate with multidiscipline internal and external project teams.
  • Develop/review civil/structural engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and specifications.
  • Document and track action items and deliverables.
  • Procure major/minor civil/structural materials and prepare material takeoffs.
  • Monitor and project financial performance.
  • Perform field visits and site inspections.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design.
  • Familiarity with design codes (AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, NESC, etc.).
  • Experience working on project teams.
  • Ability to manage deliverable and time commitments.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with ability to think critically.
  • Travel occasionally.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering/Structural (MS maybe substituted for 2 years of relevant experience)
  • Minimum 5-8 years of commercial experience in civil/structural engineering
  • Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Experience with any of the following software a plus: RISA-3D, PLS-CADD, LPILE, & MicroStation/AutoCAD.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $110,000-140,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
