Job description

GARNEY CONSTRUCTION

An Estimator position is available at Garney. This is a full-time, salaried position with full benefits and participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). We are seeking a self-motivated individual to join our growing Estimating Team. To be considered for this position, you must have previous estimating experience, preferably in the water, wastewater, or industrial markets.  Candidates with proven experience estimating heavy civil earthwork, cast-in-place concrete structures, underground yard piping, and/or above-grade process piping systems.  Estimating experience with at-risk self-performing contracts is preferred over construction manager at-risk delivery methods.  

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Preparing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Review project documents, plans, specifications, and addenda completely and accurately.
  • Analyzing and compiling estimate data that impacts the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location, and other factors.
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals.
  • Developing and maintaining business relationships with small businesses, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Provide input on value engineering.
  • Ability to provide conceptual estimates from limited information with assumptions and clarifications.
  • Preparing contingency and risk analysis for the estimate and pre-review.
  • Communicating estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of the scope of the job and critical means and methods of construction.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Estimating experience (5-8 years)
  • Preferred but not required: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, business administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings and understanding specifications.
  • Must be able to review take-off quantities to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates and review drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions.
  • Motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills and experience working in collaborative environments
