Position Overview

Are you a heavy civil estimator ready to take complete ownership of high-impact site development and infrastructure projects across Central Florida? We are seeking a Senior Estimator to step into a high-visibility preconstruction leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Estimator. In this position, you will own the end-to-end estimating lifecycle—from initial quantity takeoffs and risk analysis through complete bid submission and project turnover—driving the financial strategy behind major regional developments.

Joining our team means partnering with a respected, family-owned civil contractor that has built its decades-long legacy on quality, integrity, and long-term client relationships. Here, your work isn't just about crunching numbers; it's about steering profitable growth, mastering complex field logistics, and leaving a tangible mark on Central Florida's rapidly expanding footprint. We offer a highly lucrative total compensation package, comprehensive benefit coverage, and a culture that actively invests in your professional autonomy and long-term career trajectory.

Core Responsibilities

  • Preconstruction Leadership: Architect and execute complete, competitive cost estimates and bid proposals for multi-million-dollar site development, earthwork, underground utility, and roadway infrastructure projects.

  • Quantity Takeoff & Modeling: Perform rigorous material and work-quantity takeoffs for earthwork balancing, site clearing, demolition, utilities, storm drainage, asphalt/concrete paving, and temporary erosion control.

  • Bid Management & Strategy: Manage simultaneous bidding schedules under strict deadlines, attend pre-bid meetings, analyze geotechnical reports, review addenda, and lead comprehensive internal bid reviews.

  • Cost Analytics & Productivity Modeling: Analyze equipment utilization rates, labor productivity, dewatering requirements, site logistics, and mobilization overhead to craft accurate, high-margin project budgets.

  • Subcontractor & Vendor Buyout: Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate competitive pricing from specialty subcontractors, equipment vendors, and material suppliers to ensure complete scope alignment and value creation.

  • Client & Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Serve as a primary technical voice during preconstruction, consulting with developers, municipalities, general contractors, and civil engineers on scope clarifications and constructability reviews.

  • Project Turnover & Lifecycle Support: Conduct detailed pre-construction turnover meetings with field operations and project management, transferring estimate assumptions, risk mitigation plans, and procurement strategies to guarantee smooth execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated preconstruction and estimating experience in heavy civil construction, site preparation, earthwork, or underground utility installation.

  • Technical Acumen: Deep command of heavy civil construction methods, production rate analysis, site balancing, equipment costing, and civil plan interpretation (grading, utility, and drainage profiles).

  • Project Portfolio: Proven track record estimating projects ranging from several hundred thousand dollars to multi-million-dollar heavy civil contracts.

  • Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency with digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g., AGTEK, HCSS HeavyBid, Trimble Business Center, PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Communication: Exceptional organizational, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to manage strict bidding deadlines seamlessly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Software Expertise: Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D (review/takeoff), Procore, Sage Estimating, or Viewpoint.

  • Market Exposure: Prior estimating background with local municipal agencies, FDOT, Florida counties, private land developers, or major commercial general contractors across Central Florida.

  • Sector Specialty: Advanced background in complex site balancing, deep utility installation, dewatering, or stormwater repair systems.
