About the Job

Cityside Fiber is seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer II to join our OSP team. This role takes ownership of the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and related telecommunication infrastructure with minimal supervision. The Splicer II brings demonstrated hands-on experience in fiber optic operations, works independently in the field, and serves as a reliable resource for Splicer I team members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform splicing, testing, and certification of fiber optic networks independently and to quality standards
  • Utilize specialized equipment and tools to splice fibers and ensure consistently low-loss connections
  • Install and configure network equipment including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Perform network and fiber maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting in the field with limited supervision
  • Diagnose and resolve network problems on-site, coordinating with customers as needed
  • Execute OTDR testing and interpret results to verify splice quality and identify faults
  • Maintain thorough documentation of network repairs, upgrades, and field activity
  • Provide on-site technical support for customers, representing Cityside Fiber professionally
  • Conduct site surveys and network assessments independently
  • Mentor and support Splicer I team members in the field
  • Contribute to a culture of trust, integrity, and collaboration
  • Understand and uphold Cityside Fiber's core purpose and values and be passionate about what we do

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in telecommunications, fiber optic splicing, network installation, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques and equipment
  • Solid familiarity with optical fibers, connectors, and splice closures
  • Proficiency in fiber mapping and schematic reading
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency in using OTDRs, fusion splicers, and other fiber optic testing tools
  • Working understanding of telecommunication infrastructure and networking concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in the field
  • Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Valid state driver's license, good driving record, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance
  • Certification in fiber optics (e.g., CFOT) preferred
