Senior Civil Engineer – Land Development/Water Resources Position Title: Senior Civil Engineer – Land Development/Water Resources Location: Austin, Texas
Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with deep expertise in water modeling, wastewater modeling, stormwater management, floodplain modeling, and floodplain development and mitigation. This role is designed for a technically gifted professional who thrives on advancing private projects within the City of Austin and surrounding jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technical excellence, mentoring others, and driving the firm’s technical capabilities forward by delivering high quality work product.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee hydrologic and hydraulic modeling efforts for projects.
  • Prepare, manage, and review water, wastewater, stormwater, and floodplain studies in compliance with City of Austin regulations and surrounding municipal codes.
  • Provide innovative floodplain development and mitigation strategies to unlock and enhance site development potential.
  • Direct the technical design and permitting process, working closely with internal teams, clients, and city officials.
  • Guide drainage, utility, and site design efforts from due diligence through construction.
  • Serve as the technical authority within the company for modeling and drainage-related efforts.
  • Mentor and uplift junior and mid-level engineers through hands‑on leadership, training, and technical review.
  • Champion best practices and continuous improvement in modeling methodologies, software use, and project delivery.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, partners, consultants, and public reviewers.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas.
  • 8+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, with a focus on water resources and land development.
  • Expert-level proficiency with modeling tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), SWMM, InfoWorks, and Civil 3D.
  • Deep understanding of City of Austin Drainage Criteria Manual, Environmental Criteria Manual, and Land Development Code.
  • Successful track record of navigating floodplain development applications, CLOMRs/LOMRs, and mitigation projects.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Passion for mentoring and technical growth — seeing the success of others as a key measure of personal success.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a solution‑driven approach to technical challenges and project execution.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with surrounding jurisdictions such as Travis County, Williamson County, Hays County, Caldwell County, City of Round Rock, City of Pflugerville, City of Kyle, City of Lockhart, City of San Marcos and others.
  • Experience coordinating with other partner consultants including surveyors, architects, landscape architects, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and geotechnical engineers.
  • Exposure to large‑scale master‑planned developments or complex infill projects.
  • Working knowledge of water quality treatment and detention design.
