This role is more than just reading meters-it's about being the eyes and ears of our water utility operations. You'll navigate neighborhoods, identify potential issues, and help keep essential services running smoothly, all while enjoying the variety of working outdoors.

Essential Job Duties
  • Reads water meters to bill customers. Rereads meters as necessary.
  • Reports water leaks. Reports the need for new meter boxes for those that have deteriorated or been stolen.
  • Completes related work orders.
  • Performs specialized technical aspects related to reading meters
  • Maintains equipment and vehicle in good working condition.
  • Provides back-up support to other staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Employee will be subject to extreme temperatures reading and maintaining meters. Ability to sit, bend, stoop, lift and climb into small areas. must be able to lift large valve covers. Employee may also be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals or materials while in the field. Employee is also exposed to traffic hazards and put into potentially dangerous situations with stray animals while reading meters.
Required Qualifications
Ability to effectively communicate with citizens and employees to provide information on the current meter readings.
Ability to work orders and maps to find street locations. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as shovels, meter wrenches, picks, screwdrivers, and handheld meter reading terminals.
High school diploma or equivalent required plus one to three years of experience in meter reading preferred. Valid Texas driver's license required.
