Job description

Winstead PC is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our Business Litigation Practice Group in the Houston office.
Position Summary and Essential Functions
  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to attorneys.
  • Prepare and edit legal documents and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Proofread and cite check briefs.
  • Docket case deadlines.
  • File in state and federal courts.
  • Maintain document management databases.
  • Review, organize, and process client billing in a timely manner.
  • Manage and monitor calendaring of deadlines and key dates.
  • Interact with clients and other contacts regarding scheduling.
  • Prepare conflict of interest checks and open new client files.
  • Prepare engagement letters and conflict waivers.
  • Process expense reports/reimbursement requests.
  • Assist assigned attorneys with CLE compliance and business development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • At least three years of commercial litigation experience in a law firm.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience working with document management systems.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal and teamworking skills.
