How much do circuit design jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 23, 2026, the average yearly pay for circuit design in the United States is $110,795.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $83,500.00 and $132,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, petroleum engineering, and certain electrical or aerospace engineering roles can earn $500,000 or more annually, often with extensive experience, advanced skills, and additional compensation like bonuses or stock options. High-level positions in these fields typically require advanced degrees and a strong track record of performance.

Can I make 200K as an electrical engineer?

Electrical engineers, including those specializing in circuit design, can earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, or working in high-paying industries like aerospace or semiconductor manufacturing. Salaries vary based on location, education, certifications, and the complexity of projects handled.

What does a circuit designer do?

A circuit designer creates electrical schematics and layouts for electronic circuits, ensuring they meet specified functions and performance criteria. They use tools like CAD software and analyze components to optimize circuit performance, often working closely with engineers and testing prototypes. Strong knowledge of electronics, circuit theory, and industry standards is essential for this role.

What are some common challenges circuit design engineers face when working on complex projects?

Circuit design engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating multiple components within limited space, ensuring signal integrity, and managing power consumption. Collaborating closely with PCB layout engineers, firmware developers, and testing teams is essential to resolve design issues and meet project deadlines. Additionally, keeping up with rapid technological advancements and stringent industry standards can require ongoing learning and adaptability.

What is the salary of a PCB designer?

The salary of a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) designer typically ranges from $60,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level designers may earn less, while experienced professionals with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher salaries. Factors such as proficiency with CAD tools and understanding of electronic components influence compensation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Circuit Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Circuit Designer, you need a strong background in electronics, circuit theory, and experience with schematic design, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with electronic design automation (EDA) tools like Cadence, Altium Designer, or OrCAD, as well as knowledge of industry standards and certifications, is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure reliable, innovative circuit solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards.

What are circuit design engineers?

Circuit design engineers are professionals who create, test, and develop electrical circuits used in electronic devices and systems. They are responsible for designing both analog and digital circuits, selecting appropriate components, and ensuring the functionality and reliability of their designs. Circuit design engineers often use specialized software tools for schematic capture and simulation, and collaborate closely with other engineers to bring products from concept to production. Their work is fundamental to the development of everything from smartphones to medical equipment.

What is the difference between Circuit Design vs PCB Design?

AspectCircuit DesignPCB Design
Primary FocusCreating electrical circuit schematics and logicDesigning the physical layout of printed circuit boards
Skills & CertificationsElectrical engineering, schematic software (e.g., OrCAD, Altium)PCB layout, CAD tools, electrical constraints
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, engineering officesManufacturing facilities, design offices
Industry UsageElectronics, embedded systems, hardware developmentElectronics manufacturing, product development

While both roles are integral to electronic product development, Circuit Design focuses on creating the electrical schematics and logic, whereas PCB Design involves translating those schematics into physical layouts for manufacturing. Professionals often collaborate but specialize in different stages of the hardware development process.
