PMI Smarter Diego is a growing, full-service property management and real estate company serving homeowners associations (HOAs), residential rental properties, commercial properties, and real estate clients throughout Southern California. As part of one of the nation's largest property management franchise organizations, we are committed to providing exceptional financial management and customer service.
We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant with at least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in Homeowners Association (HOA) accounting and residential property management accounting.
This position is primarily responsible for HOA accounting, with additional responsibilities supporting our residential property management portfolio. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple association and residential accounts while working closely with our property managers and our third-party accounting team.
Because we are a growing company, we do not maintain a large in-house accounting department. This position plays a critical role in our daily accounting operations and serves as the liaison between our office and our third-party accounting firm.
Responsibilities
  •  Manage the accounting for a portfolio of Homeowners Associations (HOAs) and residential rental properties.
  •  Perform full-cycle accounting, including:
    •  Accounts Payable
    •  Accounts Receivable
    •  General Ledger entries
    •  Journal entries
    •  Bank reconciliations
    •  Monthly financial statement preparation
    •  Month-end closing
  •  Upload, review, code, and process vendor invoices.
  •  Coordinate with our third-party accounting firm to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  •  Prepare monthly financial packages for HOA Boards of Directors and residential property owners.
  •  Reconcile operating, reserve, and trust accounts.
  •  Assist with budgets, reserve funding, and annual audit preparation.
  •  Ensure compliance with company policies and industry accounting standards.
  •  Support property managers, vendors, homeowners, and Board members with accounting-related inquiries.
  •  Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  •  Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  •  Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with preference given to candidates experienced in:
    •  Homeowners Association (HOA) accounting
    •  Residential property management accounting
  •  Experience using property management accounting software is highly preferred, including:
    • CINC Systems (HOA Accounting)
    • Rentvine (Residential Property Management)
    • QuickBooks
  •  Candidates without direct experience in CINC Systems or Rentvine are encouraged to apply if they possess strong accounting fundamentals and are willing to learn new software platforms quickly.
  •  Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting processes.
  •  Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  •  Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  •  Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Candidate
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys working in a smaller, growing organization where they can make a meaningful impact. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership of accounting responsibilities, collaborating with our off-site accounting team, learning new technology, and helping us provide outstanding financial services to our HOA and residential property management clients.
