Job description

Brand Ambassador – Portland, Maine

Location: Portland, ME and surrounding area
Schedule: Part-Time — averages 10 hours per month, primarily nights and weekends
Compensation: $25.00 per hour + $0.725 per mile

Why Join Downeast?

Building a world-class brand takes a world-class team. Here's what the job comes with:

Pay That Respects Your Time: $25/hour plus mileage, for work that happens in bars, stores, and festivals rather than an office.

A Schedule That Fits Around Your Life: A few events a month, mostly nights and weekends. It works alongside a full-time job, a class schedule, or whatever else your week already looks like.

Culture & Camaraderie: Company-wide and department events, including Company Day, the annual Holiday Party, and Bagel Friday.

The Perks: A cider stipend. Lots of cider. How big is your fridge?

No Experience? We'll Train You.

You don't need beverage or promo experience to do this job. We'll teach you the products, the setup, and how a great sampling runs. What we can't teach is being the kind of person strangers enjoy talking to — that part you bring.

The Mission

Brand Ambassadors are Downeast in Portland. You're the person handing someone their first-ever taste of our cider, and your mission is to make that moment count — at stores, bars, and festivals across your home territory. Most people decide how they feel about a brand in about thirty seconds of meeting it. You're the thirty seconds.

What an Event Looks Like

You load your gear and cider, drive to the venue (on our mileage dime), and set up your station. For the next few hours, you're pouring samples, answering questions, and making the sampling experience one people won't forget — we really mean it. You break down, log how it went, and head home. That's the job. It happens where people are already having a good time, and you're the reason it gets slightly better.

What You'll Do

Run Great Events: Execute high-quality events and demos at stores, bars, festivals, and wherever else Downeast needs to show up.

Be the Brand: Sample cider, answer questions about the product, and engage with customers — enthusiasm is the whole job.

Own Your Kit: Manage the gear and cider for your demos and brand events, and keep it organized between them.

Who You Are

Fun as hell. This is a real requirement and we're keeping it.

Great with strangers. You've got a track record of excellent customer service, and talking to people you've never met energizes you rather than drains you.

Organized. Events run on logistics — gear, product, timing — and yours run smoothly.

Reliable. When you're on the schedule, you show up, because the event happens whether you do or not.

What You Need

Must be at least 21 years old (federal & state alcohol regulations).

Reliable access to a vehicle.

Availability for nights and weekends.

One More Thing

After you apply, we'll send you a short Wonderlic assessment. Everyone who applies takes it — it's part of the process, not a trap. If you're going to complete it, apply. If you're not, this saves us both an email.

How to Apply

Submit your resume and a cover letter explaining why this post speaks to you. Drop the formal stuff and give it to us straight — why you? Do not "to whom it may concern" us. We mean it.

About Downeast Cider

We first started fermenting batches of cider up at Bates College in 2011. We have a few more teammates now. You can now buy our cider in tens of thousands of retailers, not just a couple of bars in central Maine. It takes us 15 minutes to make a pallet of cider, not the 12 hours it took in the early days. We're diversifying beyond cider, but our aim remains the same:

We aspire to be an enduring company. If we create value for our customers, we create value for ourselves through fulfilling work and robust compensation. To do this requires a world-class brand, and a world-class team.

We define our culture by seven principles. You can read more about those principles on our website. Suits need not apply.

Unfiltered Hiring

We like to hire the way we like our cider: unfiltered. With the understanding that we can learn and grow from each other's differences, we are proud to hire regardless of gender, race, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age, or anything else that makes us who we are.
