Ci Cd Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CI/CD Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CI/CD Developer, you need a strong background in software development, automation, and DevOps principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and experience with cloud platforms and scripting languages are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help in troubleshooting issues and working across teams. These capabilities ensure reliable software delivery, efficient workflows, and high-quality production deployments.

What are some common challenges faced by CI/CD Developers when integrating new tools or technologies into existing pipelines?

CI/CD Developers often encounter challenges such as compatibility issues with legacy systems, ensuring seamless integration of new tools without disrupting current workflows, and maintaining consistent security standards across the pipeline. Additionally, they may need to coordinate closely with development, QA, and operations teams to align on best practices and troubleshoot unexpected deployment issues. Staying updated with evolving technologies and continuously optimizing pipeline efficiency are also ongoing responsibilities.

What are CI/CD Developers?

CI/CD Developers are software professionals who specialize in implementing and managing Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CD) processes. Their main role involves automating the software build, testing, and deployment pipelines to ensure rapid and reliable delivery of applications. They work closely with development, operations, and quality assurance teams to streamline workflows, reduce manual errors, and improve software quality. CI/CD Developers often use tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Travis CI, or Azure DevOps to set up automated processes and monitor deployment pipelines.

What is the difference between Ci Cd Developer vs DevOps Engineer?

AspectCi Cd DeveloperDevOps Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires knowledge of CI/CD tools, scripting, and basic cloud skillsRequires broader skills including automation, cloud infrastructure, and system administration
Work EnvironmentFocuses on implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines within development teamsWorks across development and operations teams to streamline deployment and infrastructure
Industry UsageCommonly used in software development companies emphasizing continuous integrationUsed in organizations adopting DevOps practices for end-to-end automation

While both roles involve automation and deployment, a Ci Cd Developer primarily focuses on building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, whereas a DevOps Engineer has a broader scope, including infrastructure management and cross-team collaboration to improve deployment processes.

Job description

Job Summary:
KeyBank National Association is seeking a CI/CD Engineer to support the advancement of a delivery platform that enables secure, reliable, and efficient software releases. In this role, you will partner with application and platform engineering teams to design and implement modern automation solutions that improve the speed and consistency of software delivery to production.
Responsibilities:
• Architect, build, and evolve scalable, reusable, and secure CI/CD pipelines in GitLab that support modern, multi-language, microservice-based applications.
• Integrate deployment pipelines with change-management and compliance systems like ServiceNow to automate change requests and pipeline gates without manual overhead.
• Administer package and container registries (e.g., JFrog Artifactory, GCP Artifact Registry) and support tooling to facilitate developer interactions with the registries.
• Collaborate on building secure, repeatable deployment templates targeting Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (such as GKE, Cloud Run, GCS, and IAM).
• Create CI/CD templates and self-service automation that help product engineering teams launch new services quickly with secure defaults and built-in quality controls.
• Embed static analysis (SAST/DAST), Software Composition Analysis (SCA), and unit/integration test gates directly into merge request pipelines.
• Diagnose and resolve complex build, runner, caching, and deployment issues.
• Interpret and write terraform. Debug state and provide guidance to developers.
• Author clear, accessible developer playbooks, architectural diagrams, and migration guides to drive inner-source contributions and pipeline adoption.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent practical, hands-on experience.
• 2+ years of experience in DevOps, CI/CD, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or full-stack development with hands-on exposure to CI/CD.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Go, or Javascript, along with shell scripting (Bash) to develop automation, integration workflows, and internal developer tooling.
• Solid foundation in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially services such as GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Build, IAM role bindings, and VPC service controls in modern cloud-native delivery environments.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab, including branching strategies, GitLab CI YAML, matrix builds, parent-child pipelines, caching, and custom runner configuration in production-grade environments.
Preferred:
• Solid understanding of Terraform configuration and state management to provision pipeline and cloud resources safely.
• Knowledge of Docker, including multi-stage builds, layer caching, image optimization, and container orchestration concepts.
• Hands-on experience working with binary/package registry ecosystems such as NPM, PyPI, NuGet, Maven, Docker, or Helm.
• Hands-on experience integrating pipelines with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth-based services, ServiceNow APIs, and other enterprise platforms to support low-touch change control, status checks, and cross-system workflow automation.
