Church Internships information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Church Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Church Intern, you need a foundational understanding of Christian theology, a willingness to learn, and often enrollment in or completion of relevant ministry or divinity coursework. Familiarity with church management software, social media platforms, and audio-visual equipment is typically beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a servant-hearted attitude help interns connect with congregation members and support church leaders. These competencies are essential to effectively assist in ministry activities, facilitate church operations, and foster spiritual growth within the community.

What are church internships?

Church internships are structured programs offered by churches to provide hands-on experience and training for individuals interested in ministry or church-related careers. These internships often involve working alongside church staff, participating in various ministries such as youth, worship, or outreach, and developing leadership and organizational skills. Interns may also receive mentorship, attend meetings, and assist with church events, gaining valuable insight into the daily operations of a church. The primary goal is to prepare individuals for future roles in ministry or related fields by providing practical, real-world experience.

What is the difference between Church Internships vs Youth Ministry Internships?

Church Internships generally involve a broad range of church-related activities, including administrative tasks, outreach, and support roles. Youth Ministry Internships specifically focus on working with young people, planning youth programs, and mentoring. While both roles share similar credentials and environments, Youth Ministry Internships are tailored toward youth engagement and education within the church context.

What types of responsibilities can I expect during a church internship, and how do they contribute to my professional growth?

As a church intern, you can expect a variety of responsibilities such as assisting in worship services, helping with youth or children’s ministries, organizing community outreach events, and supporting administrative tasks. These experiences provide hands-on training in leadership, communication, and event planning within a faith-based setting. Working closely with church staff and volunteers also helps you build strong teamwork skills and gain valuable mentorship. This role often serves as a stepping stone to more advanced positions in ministry or nonprofit leadership, as you develop a practical understanding of church operations and community engagement.

Overview
Do you love helping people encounter God in a real and meaningful way? The worship minister at our Carmel campus plays a vital role in creating environments where people can connect with God, engage in community, and grow in their faith. This role is all about leading people, not just musically but spiritually, by creating worship experiences that are engaging, thoughtful, and aligned with the vision of Genesis Church. You’ll lead and develop teams, invest in volunteers, and help shape the culture of worship both at the campus level and across all of our locations.
This role is best suited for someone who has already led in a similar ministry context and is ready to take an existing volunteer worship team into the next season. Our ideal candidate will not only be musically talented but also passionate about discipleship and someone who thrives in a collaborative team environment and is excited to build something meaningful while carrying both leadership and hands-on responsibilities. We’re also open to shaping certain aspects of the role based on the candidate’s strengths and experience.
What You’ll Do

Lead Worship & Shape Environments
·       Lead worship for weekend services (including occasional multi-campus rotation)
·       Create engaging, accessible, and spiritually meaningful worship experiences aligned with the vision of the church
·       Provide clear and authentic leadership from the platform
·       Help shape the creative direction of worship environments through thoughtful planning and execution
Build and Develop Teams
·       Recruit, train, and develop volunteer worship and tech team members
·       Shepherd and invest in a growing team of 30+ volunteers
·       Create a healthy, Christ-centered culture that empowers others to lead
·       Identify and develop future leaders, residents, and interns
Execute Services & Collaborate Across Teams
·       Plan and execute weekly services, including scheduling, rehearsals, and service flow
·       Oversee all aspects of the service environment (music, production, media, and technical elements)
·       Partner with campus pastors, staff, and central teams to ensure alignment across campuses
·       Participate in creative planning, church-wide initiatives, and continuous improvement of worship experiences
Qualifications

·       3+ years of worship leadership or pastoral ministry experience (multi-site experience is a plus)
·       Strong musical ability with experience leading worship in a church setting
·       Proven ability to build, lead, and develop volunteer teams
·       Comfortable with worship and production technology (Digital sound consoles, digital lighting, ProPresenter, etc.)
·       Strong communicator who connects well with both teams and congregation
·       Spiritually mature with a clear and growing personal relationship with God
·       A team player who is relational, humble, and eager to grow
·       Organized, proactive, and able to lead both people and systems effectively

What We’re Looking For
·       A shepherd-hearted leader who cares deeply about people, not just production
·       Someone who builds teams—not just leads sets
·       A leader who values both spiritual depth and musical excellence
·       A self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
·       Someone who thrives in a collaborative, feedback-driven environment
·       Genesis Church’s Mission, Culture, and Values
Genesis Church’s Mission, Culture, and Values
At Genesis Church, our mission is simple: helping people find their way back to God. Every team member plays a critical role in making that happen by having a real, growing relationship with Jesus. We expect our team to treat others—whether they’re fellow staff, volunteers, parents, kids, or guests—with kindness, respect, and grace. Since we believe everything we have comes from God, we strive to be generous with our time, talents, and resources.
At Genesis Church, we believe our staff should lead by example, living out our values every day. We strive for personal integrity, always growing to be more like Jesus. We carry humble confidence, making sure that our work points people to God, not ourselves. We bring all-in passion, loving, and valuing what we do. We believe ministry should be filled with contagious fun, creating an environment where our staff, mission, and church family thrive. We live authentic lives, being the same person no matter who we’re around. And we practice honest encouragement, always building each other up instead of tearing others down.

Campus Location
Genesis Church is a multisite church with two locations in Carmel and Noblesville, Indiana. The Carmel Worship Minister position will be based at our Carmel campus, located at 13200 Old Meridian Street, Carmel, Indiana 46032. The successful candidate will primarily work from the Carmel campus but may occasionally need to visit the Noblesville campus for meetings, large events, and training as required.
Next Steps
We are excited that you’re exploring opportunities to serve alongside us as we help people find their way back to God. If you would like to be considered for this role, please attach your resume to this application. Additionally, on your resume, include a video link of yourself leading a worship team for a worship service. Make sure that the quality of your abilities is showcased and audible. We care more about seeing and hearing your skills and giftings than the production level of the experience.
