Choir Rehearsal Pianist

We are in search of a church choir rehearsal pianist. The person accompanies vocalists, rehearses specific anthem parts, and collaborates with the choir director. Responsibilities include playing through vocal scores, helping singers pitch notes, adjusting tempos as directed, and arriving prepared to support the overall music ministry. 

Core Responsibilities During Rehearsals

  • Accompany the choir: Play full arrangements or reduction scores accurately while the choir sings.
  • Support sectional practice: Play specific vocal lines (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) to help sections learn their parts.
  • Follow the director: Watch the choir director for cues, tempo changes, and dynamic expressions.
  • Assist with pitch and tuning: Provide starting pitches and help correct wrong notes during run-throughs.
  • Pace the work: Repeat difficult measures or phrases as requested by leadership. [1]

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong sight-reading: Ability to read four-part vocal harmony and piano reductions on sight.
  • Collaborative spirit: Willingness to take direction and adapt to feedback from the director and singers.
  • Reliability: Prompt arrival for all scheduled weekly practices.
  • Musical flexibility: Skill in handling various styles, from traditional hymns to contemporary arrangements.

Time Requirements 

  •  8 โ€“ 10 hours a month
  • 2 Sundays a month from 12:45 pm โ€“ 2 pm .
  • Alternating Thursday evenings
  • No Sunday services
