Position Description

Job Title: Overhires

Reports to: Theater General Manager

Department: Theater

Date: March 2026

Work Hours: Called As Needed

Pay Type: Hourly

Rate: $30.00 per Hour


Job Summary:

 

We are looking for Overhires to work as Stagehands, Lighting Designers, Light Board Operators, Programmers, Electricians, Carpenters, and Audio Engineers


Essential Job Responsibilities:

 

Stagehands

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church. Monitors the client backstage and handles any house equipment needed for the production including soft goods, fly rail, Marley dance floor, tables and chairs. General knowledge and theatrical procedure required.


Light Designers and Programmers

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church.
  • Program on a ETC Ion or Element Lighting Console
  • Design Lighting for Events (Dance, Plays, Musicals, ect.)
  • Assist in Lighting Hangs and Focus Calls



Electricians

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church.
  • Assist in Lighting Hangs and Focus Calls
  • Cable Management



Carpenters

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church.
  • Assist Master Carpenter in construction of sets and props


 

Audio Engineers

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church.
  • Conduct Front of House Mixing for live musicals and concerts.



Experience and Education Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, emphasis in Theater or Design.


  • 1-3 years working in a professional theatrical setting


  • Professional demeanor is a must, as the candidate will be expected to be the representative of the Church to clients.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism.


  • Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality.


  • Ability to behave within the Staff Vision of The Riverside Church - “Love is our Aim and Mutual Respect our Pathway”.


  • Audio Engineers: Applicants must have at least three years of live sound experience in concerts, theater, or lecture settings. Experience with Yamaha CL series consoles, Dante networking, and QLab is required, along with theatrical mixing and wireless microphone systems. Candidates must be comfortable fitting microphones on performers of all ages. Ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights is required.


  • Lighting Designers: Must have 1 years’ professional experience or 4 years educational experience in Lighting Design. Must have experience with ETC EOS networking and Intelligent Lighting. Must be able to design a one off show in a limited tech schedule. Problem-solving skills, sound judgment Most rentals include Dance, Plays and Musicals.


  • Lighting Board Programmers: Must have 1 years’ professional experience or 4 years educational experience in Programming. Must have experience with ETC EOS networking and Intelligent Lighting. Problem-solving skills, sound judgment.


  • Electricians: Must have 1 year Theatre experience or 4 years educational experience in Theatrical Lighting. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work at heights is required. Must be comfortable working at height from a scaffold, genie lift or a ladder.


  • Stagehands and Carpenters: Must have 1 year Theatre experience or 4 years educational experience. General power tool experience. Ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights is required.
