Job description


The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive, patient-centered evaluation and management for individuals with complex, multi-system, and often overlapping conditions. The clinician will assess and treat patients with a variety of diagnoses including fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC/Long COVID), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and related symptom clusters (e.g., chronic pain, fatigue, dyspnea, sleep disturbance, cognitive concerns, and autonomic symptoms). Care is delivered in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment that emphasizes diagnostic clarity, symptom management, functional improvement, and longitudinal support.
There may be additional opportunities to support other clinical services within the Integrative Medicine and Health section, which may include:
  • Longevity / healthy aging-focused visits.
  • Herb and dietary supplement consultation visits, including medication-supplement reconciliation
    and evidence-informed counseling.
  • Stress management and resiliency consultations.

Clinical Focus / Patient Population
  • New and follow-up visits for patients with fibromyalgia, chronic widespread pain, central sensitization, and associated comorbidities.
  • Evaluation and longitudinal management of ME/CFS, including pacing/energy management and symptom-focused care.
  • Assessment and management of Long COVID/PASC presentations, including fatigue, dyspnea, exertional intolerance, cognitive complaints ("brain fog"), and multisystem symptoms.
  • Diagnosis and management support for POTS and other autonomic dysfunction concerns, in coordination with specialty partners as appropriate.
  • Care of patients with overlapping conditions such as migraine/headache disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, sleep disorders, anxiety/depression, post-viral syndromes, and deconditioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams; synthesize complex records; and create differential diagnoses and evidence-informed care plans.
  • Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests and screenings; coordinate referrals and consults with relevant specialties (e.g., cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, rheumatology, sleep medicine, rehabilitation, behavioral health).
  • Provide symptom-targeted treatment (pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic) and longitudinal management, emphasizing functional goals and shared decision-making.
  • Educate patients and families on condition understanding, self-management strategies and expectation setting.
  • Collaboration with nursing, physical therapy, psychology/psychiatry, other team members.
  • Opportunities for participation in quality improvement, practice initiatives that enhance access, outcomes, and patient experience, and research.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving evidence and guidelines related to Long COVID/PASC, autonomic dysfunction, chronic pain, and fatigue syndromes.

Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current MN RN and APRN license and certification as an FNP or ANP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the MN State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Active BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required
  • Will consider New Grads or 2+ years of NP/PA clinical experience in internal medicine, family medicine, rheumatology, neurology, pulmonology, cardiology, pain management, rehabilitation, or related fields.
  • Experience caring for patients with chronic pain, fatigue syndromes (including ME/CFS), Long COVID/PASC, POTS/autonomic dysfunction, or other complex multisystem conditions.
  • Training or experience with motivational interviewing, behavioral health integration, and/or trauma-informed care.
  • Interest in clinical innovation, pathway development, and quality improvement.
  • Experience in academic medicine, teaching, or research support.
