Job description

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging fitness classes or sessions for YMCA members of varying fitness levels and ages. The instructor creates a supportive, inclusive atmosphere that reflects the core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead group fitness classes (e.g., strength training, cardio, yoga, cycling) or provide individual fitness instruction.

  • Ensure participant safety by monitoring proper form, offering modifications, and educating on safe exercise practices.

  • Greet and interact with members in a friendly, professional manner to promote a positive YMCA experience.

  • Prepare class routines and maintain consistency while keeping classes fresh and engaging.

  • Enforce all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to safety, health, and conduct.

  • Set up and break down class equipment before and after each session.

  • Respond to member questions and provide guidance on fitness-related topics.

  • Maintain accurate attendance and incident reports as needed.

  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, training, and continuing education.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lead and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods.
