JOB TITLE: Library Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy North Miami

REPORTS TO: School Principal

STATUS: 10-Month, Hourly Non-Exempt

HOURS: Full Time (40)

LOCATION: CCA North Miami

Purpose Statement:

The Library Assistant provides support to the Library Tech Teacher (LTT) in the effective organization and administration of the Library Media Center (LMC) and programs.

Scope:

The Library Assistant provides assistance with formal and informal instruction in information skills, the production of materials and the use of information and instructional technologies in the LMC. The assistant also assists in processing the library collection in order for students to perform the tasks assigned by their teachers. The Library Assistant interacts with students, teachers, staff, parents and volunteers that work or visit the library.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintains punctual, reliable, and consistent on-site attendance to meet the needs of department and teams.
  • Prepares the LMC daily by implementing policies and procedures including managing the circulation desk.
  • Performs circulation tasks including monitoring students for content, relevance, and maturity of material.
  • Assists in maintaining the electronic catalog and patron records including overdue notices and teacher communication.
  • Reviews donated materials and submit recommendations to the LTT.
  • Maintains elementary periodicals.
  • Maintains all technical and AV equipment in the center and in storage.
  • Assists students, teachers, staff, and parents, in locating and using print and non-print materials.
  • Assists the LTT with students and lessons.
  • Monitors computer and printer use.
  • Assists in the creation of seasonal bulletin boards and displays.
  • Assist in the production of materials, such as photocopying, laminating, etc.
  • Coordinates the distribution of mail.
  • Assists with annual LMC inventory
  • Assists with special events including Children’s Crown/Gallery Award program, AR program and author visits.
  • Assists with training and coordinating volunteers.
  • Attends CCANM, CCFL staff meetings.
  • Attends staff devotions.
  • Works on “Teacher Work Days” as needed
