Academy Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Teachers are the most important daily leaders and shapers of intellectual, ethical, and spiritual culture on our campuses. Every teacher is a role model and must always act and speak as one.

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Create a classroom environment that will feel safe for all students to learn and reach theirfullestpotential.

  • Create thoughtful and well-planned lessons while adhering to the curriculum.

  • Maintain orderly classrooms.

  • Providetimelyand meaningful evaluation/correction of student work.

  • Engage studentsutilizingthe Socratic method.

  • Lead students through intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity, andexample.

  • Fully embrace the school's vision of community, of learning, and of leadership.

  • Performadditionalassigned campus duties.

  • Read, know, and support the philosophy, policies,proceduresand other pertinent data of the school as published in the Faculty Handbook and most current Family Handbook.

  • Follow school policies and procedures for ensuring the safety and security of students on campus.

  • Provide reasonableassistanceto those students in need of individual help andassiststudentstomake-up work after approved absences.

  • Communicate regularly and as needed with parents,initiatingparent-teacher conferences andrespondto parental inquiries by the end of the next school day.

  • Attend Open Houses, special school events (such as concerts, plays and special presentations) and certain staff meetingsdesignatedas All Faculty Meetings.

  • Attend all Great Hearts professional development opportunities, including New Faculty Orientation and the Summit.

  • Support and enforce theschooldress and behavior codes and make reasonable efforts to promote the orderly behavior of all students in the school, on the grounds,and atoff-campus school activities.

  • Keepaccuraterecords and make reports asrequired.

  • Evaluate and document thestudents'day-to-day work, prepare the quarterreportand prepare and participate in the formal semester evaluation and conference.

  • Attend andparticipatein review meetings with the Headof School.

  • Participate in faculty development onearly releasedays.

  • Is an active member of the community of learners, continuing to pursue his or her own professional growth and development.

  • Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.

Qualifications, Competencies, and Strengths

Education:Bachelor's degreerequired.

Certifications:Certification is notrequiredto teach at any of the Great Hearts Academies. Great Hearts teachers, whether certified or not,demonstratea commitment to and love for the liberal arts, knowledge of the content area which they will teach, and the capacity to instill knowledge and cultivate virtue in children.

The ideal candidate will have a commitment to the philosophy and mission of Great Hearts Christos, including, without limitation,publicly supportingthe mission and committing to instilling Christian beliefs in Great Hearts Christianscholars.

Additional Requirements

  • Type of fingerprint clearance: Mustpossessor obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.

  • Physical functions: Requires butisnot limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May berequiredto move or position equipment up to 15pounds approximately.
