Job description

The Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing the school’s K–8 basketball program in a Christ-centered environment. The coach will teach fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and character while creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere for student-athletes. The Basketball Coach will support the mission and values of the school by modeling Christian leadership both on and off the court.
Hours: This is a zero hour/seasonal position with scheduled hours with an average of 10 scheduled hours per week during basketball seasons (with additional hours during tournament weeks) and 0 hours per week during the remaining weeks of the year.

Job Requirements

  • Plan and lead effective basketball practices and team activities.
  • Coach and supervise student-athletes during games, practices, tournaments, and team events.
  • Teach basketball fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership skills.
  • Model Christian values and positive character both on and off the court.
  • Promote the spiritual, emotional, academic, and physical well-being of student-athletes.
  • Develop practice schedules, game strategies, and player development plans.
  • Ensure the safety and proper supervision of students at all times.
  • Maintain positive communication with parents, students, officials, and school staff.
  • Coordinate transportation, uniforms, equipment, and team needs as assigned.
  • Attend league meetings, trainings, and athletic department events as required.
  • Support eligibility requirements and encourage academic success among athletes.
  • Assist with program promotion, recruitment, and school athletic events.
  • Maintain appropriate conduct and represent the school professionally at all events.
  • Drive rented vehicles when required for team transportation and athletic events.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and coaching techniques.
  • Experience coaching or participating in basketball.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to supervise students in a safe and positive manner.
  • Agreement with and support of the school’s Christian mission and values.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to fulfill the physical and work requirements of the job. (See attached)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check as well as educational employment history check and reference check.
  • This position does not qualify for sponsorship of work authorization or an employment visa, so candidates must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. to be considered for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience in a school, club, or recreational setting.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents.
  • NFHS coaching certifications or equivalent training.
  • Ability to disciple and mentor students in a Christian environment.
  • Experience coordinating team travel, fundraising, or athletic events.
