Since its founding in 1976, Hope Christian School has prayed for, equipped, and sent nearly 3,000 graduates to change the world. Annually, Hope Christian School educates approximately 1,400 students from Preschool through 12th grade. Terms: Full Time, 12-Months


Job Summary: The Accountant is responsible for supporting the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of the schoolโ€™s financial operations. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position performs a wide range of accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable support, financial reporting, and audit preparation.


The Accountant helps ensure compliance with established accounting principles, internal controls, and organizational policies while contributing to the financial stewardship and mission of the school.


Essential Functions:


Financial Operations & Accounting

  • Perform general accounting duties, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review and process accounts payable transactions and verify proper account coding.
  • Support accounts receivable functions, including payment processing, deposits, and account reconciliation.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with organizational policies and accounting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Generate financial reports and supporting schedules as requested by the Controller.
  • Assist with tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other financial compliance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal financial policies.
  • Identify discrepancies and assist in resolving accounting issues in a timely manner.

Audit & Internal Controls

  • Assist with the annual audit process by gathering financial records, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of internal controls designed to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Ensure financial transactions are properly documented and supported.

Departmental Support & Collaboration

  • Serve as a financial resource to internal departments by responding to inquiries and providing accounting support.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Enrollment, Advancement, and Operations teams as needed.
  • Support special projects, process improvements, and other Finance Department initiatives.
  • Serve as a backup to the Controller when appropriate.

Mission & Faith Alignment

  • Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in all activities and responsibilities.
  • Cooperate with the Board and school administration in implementing policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
  • Model a mature Christian faith consistent with the school's Statement of Faith.
  • Support the mission and values of the school through faithful stewardship, integrity, and accountability.
Requirements:
  • Have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Believe that the Bible is God's Word and standard for faith and daily living.
  • Bachelor's degree required, (Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred).
  • Three to five years of accounting experience required; nonprofit or educational experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger processes.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with account reconciliations, month-end close processes, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
