Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Patient Financial Counselor serves as the primary point of contact for patients regarding financial matters, including insurance verification, payment arrangements, financial assistance programs, and billing inquiries. This role ensures patients understand their financial responsibilities while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Compensation:

  • $23.82/hr + DOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct comprehensive insurance review and discovery for all patients
  2. Generate and review census reports daily
  3. Process unverified reports (Experian) and coordinate with Patient Access Manager; track and report compliance issues
    • Assisting patients with Medicaid enrollment and insurance enrollments
    • Process completed financial assistance applications
    • Document notes in Cerner and verify patient income
    • Maintain spreadsheet tracker for all applications
    • Complete appropriate adjustments upon supervisor approval and send approval/denial letters
    • Complete weekly FAP adjustments up to patient expiration dates
    • Monitor expiration dates and proactively reach out to patients 30-45 days prior to request updated information
    • Send letters to patients when missing documentation is identified
  4. Manage bad debt verification process (120 days, final notice, TSI referral)
  5. Serve as main contact for TSI collections agency and pull reports as needed
  6. Contact patients for payment arrangements within 120 days post-discharge for imaging and surgeries
  7. Answer phones, respond to patient questions, and process payments
  8. Process CHP sliding scale adjustments
  9. Apply uninsured patient discounts and post adjustments
  10. Process bankruptcy-related and deceased reviews and account adjustments

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as backup for Good Faith Estimates (GFE) for clinic services
  2. Support missed payment plans and self-pay follow-up as needed
  3. Assist with Clearbalance financing process
  4. Assist with self-pay credit process as needed
  5. Provide reports as requested (patient statements, itemized charges, SAD drug reports, payment reports)
  6. Prepare price estimates for patients with insurance as needed

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

  1. Ability to Communicate Effectively.
  2. High School Diploma or GED
  3. Two years of customer service, business office experience, and credit and collection experience.
  4. Minimum of two years computer experience, which includes Microsoft Word, Excel, or similar programs
  5. Demonstrated ability to be accurate and attentive to detail
