Job Description: PM Bus Technician

Experience conducting safety inspections and ensuring compliance with CHP and DOT standards

Position: Full-Time
Location: Michael’s Transportation Service, Inc. – Vallejo, CA
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Retirement Plan

Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, At-will

Pay Rate: $25 – 35 Hourly, (DOE)

About Us

Michael’s Transportation Service, Inc. (MTS) is an employee-owned company proudly serving Northern California. With decades of experience in school bus and commercial transportation, we are committed to safety, reliability, and excellence. We are seeking a dedicated PM Bus Technician to join our Vallejo shop team to ensure our fleet remains in top condition and compliant with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections and services on school buses and commercial vehicles.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with CHP and DOT standards.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and report mechanical issues to Shop Lead or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Change oil, fluids, and filters; inspect brakes, tires, lights, belts, hoses, and exhaust systems.
  • Complete documentation, work orders, and inspection reports accurately and on time.
  • Assist with general shop duties, including maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with mechanics and shop staff to ensure timely completion of fleet maintenance schedules.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience conducting safety inspections and ensuring compliance with CHP and DOT standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training a plus).
  • Prior experience in automotive, diesel, or heavy vehicle maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and safety procedures.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. and work in a shop/bay environment.
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Class B with school bus or air brake endorsements preferred, or willingness to obtain
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
