Who we are:
Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.
We are looking for an experienced and energized sales associate to join our coming soon branch in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will be sharing Japanese culinary culture and promoting premium Japanese food products to Vietnamese foodservice providers in the Houston area. Essential Job Functions:
  • Meets the monthly and annual sales quota as designated by the manager.
  • Visits customers and potential customers to provide support, information, and sell Company’s products
  • Cooperates with accounting department to assure the collection of payment in a timely manner.
  • Maintains high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport; resolves issues in a timely manner and escalates to the management as needed.
  • Collaborates with purchasing departments, warehouse, and other involved parties to confirm that orders are processed with accuracy and efficiency and that products are distributed properly.
  • Coordinates urgent deliveries with the customer to accommodate their needs.
  • Travels to other locations to meet with clients as needed
  • Educates customers on how the products or services can benefit them.
  • Inputs and updates orders within the Company database in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and safely navigates the Company vehicle as per the Company Vehicle Policy.
  • Participates in the weekly sales meetings.
  • Attends semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend.
  • Attends Company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to drive for a majority of the daily working hours.
  • Able to travel within or outside of Texas as needed.
  • Able to talk, hear, walk, stand, smell, taste, reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to use the phone for extended periods of time.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Noise Level: Normal to loud.
  • Location: Indoor in the office or at customer sites (restaurants, wholesalers, distributors, etc.), travelling.

Other Requirements:
  • Business level English and Chinese bilingual is required.
  • Business level Vietnamese, Korean, or Japanese is a plus.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Able to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload.
  • High school diploma required; AA and above strongly preferred.
  • Experience in food industry, preferably in Japanese food industry.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Possesses basic mathematical knowledge such as markups, discounts, counting inventory, weight and measurement conversions, combining, etc.
  • Has strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, especially Microsoft NAV, highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Japanese foods and liquors strongly preferred.
