Job description

Cleveland Clinic, one of the worlds most distinguished academic medical centers, is seeking a Pediatric Palliative Care physician to serve as Director of its growing Pediatric Palliative Care program. The Director will have the resources and institutional support needed to bring their vision to fruition. This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative and engaging environment, supported by Cleveland Clinic Childrens Institute, to deliver exceptional care to pediatric and young adult patients while advancing education, research, and innovation.

The selected candidate will lead a vibrant and expanding program that currently includes three Pediatric Palliative Care physicians, two nurse practitioners, a nurse coordinator, and a dedicated social worker, with close collaboration with the Adult Palliative Care team. Pediatric Palliative Care resides within the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and provides both outpatient services and inpatient consultation. The Director will oversee care delivered across multiple sites, including Cleveland Clinics Main Campus, Cleveland Clinic Childrens Hospital for Rehabilitation, Fairview Hospital NICU, and Hillcrest Hospital NICU. Plans are underway to expand services to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General NICU and potentially to additional locations across Northeast Ohio.

The Director will lead a team that collaborates closely with a broad range of subspecialists, including, but not limited to, prenatal care, neonatology, hematology-oncology, cardiology, critical care medicine, neurology, and solid organ transplant teams. Consultations take place on Cleveland Clinics Main Campus in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as at regional hospitals caring for neonatal and pediatric patients. The program also works in partnership with external hospice agencies to ensure continuity of care for patients and families throughout the course of serious illness.

A Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship is funded and scheduled to launch in July 2027. Members of the Pediatric Palliative Care team are experienced educators who contribute to the training of Adult Palliative Medicine fellows, pediatric subspecialty fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students.

A strong commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork, excellence in Pediatric Palliative Care, and outstanding communication skills is essential for this role. The successful candidate will be board-certified in Pediatrics and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with academic achievements is expected at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Research opportunities are available through the Childrens Institute, including access to multiple pilot funding programs across Cleveland Clinic, as well as collaborative research with the Adult Palliative Medicine team and other partners. Quality and Continuous Improvement initiatives are supported by dedicated experts within Cleveland Clinic Childrens.

Cleveland Clinic physicians benefit from a collegial group practice environment, along with a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Cleveland Clinic Childrens is consistently ranked among the nations top childrens hospitals and is currently ranked in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report. It is a tertiary and quaternary referral center located on Cleveland Clinics main campus and includes more than 360 physicians across 55 pediatric medical and surgical specialties. The institution provides more than 1.1 million outpatient visits annually, over 15,500 inpatient admissions, more than 13,000 surgeries, and accepts approximately 840 transports each year from across the nation and around the world. Cleveland Clinic Childrens operates 389 inpatient beds throughout its network, including the main-campus quaternary Childrens Hospital, a free-standing Childrens Hospital for Rehabilitation, and two additional satellite hospitals in Northeast Ohio.

Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae and cover letter to Jennifer Friedler, Physician Recruiter, at friedlj@ccf.org.
