Purpose of Position

The Early Years Instructor will play a key role in deliveringLDS'Early Years (EarlyRISErs) program-aneuroaffirming, play-basedinitiativefor children ages 3to 6 and their families. This position supports the creationof a nurturing, inclusive, and strengths-based preschoolenvironmentwherechildren of all developmental stages and abilities canthrive.EarlyRISErsis aunique learning programwithparent or guardian participationin sessions,bringingfamilies andearly yearsspecialists together for a time of play, connection, andlearning.

Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary teamofEarly Childhood Educators, Behavioural Interventionists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists, the Early Years Instructorwillleadandfacilitateprogramactivities such asfree play,circle time, movement games,snack time,and learningactivities.Theywillpromotesocial-emotional development,sensoryregulation, andjoyful participationfor the children,while also modellingeffective supportstrategiesforcaregiversto support theirchild'sengagementandgrowth.

This role offers a meaningful opportunity to work closely with preschool-aged children, their families, and other early years professionals in asmall groupandcommunity-focused setting that celebrates each child's individuality.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities

• Foster relationships with children and theirsupportingadults to create asafeand collaborative learning environment.

• Leadandfacilitatedaily program activities including free play, circle time, movement games, snack time, and learningactivities.

• Support child through transitions, sensory support, and self-regulation, as needed.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team toplan anddeliverengaging, developmentallyappropriate programmingfocused on social-emotional development, early learningskills, and fundamental movement skills.

• Demonstratepractical strategiesand share them withsupportingadultstopromotethe child's participation,development, and well-being.

• Contribute to classroom setup, takedown, andmaintaininga safe, organized learning environment.

• Participate inteamdebriefdiscussionsand record observations of children's learning and developmentto supportprogramplanningand end of program reporting.

• Uphold programprocedures andpoliciesunder the guidance of the Senior Manager, Early Years Programs.

Qualifications

Listed below area number ofdifferent experiences and educational qualifications that could make you a great fit for our team! Applicants do not need to meet all the qualifications listed to be considered.

• Early Childhood Educator (ECE) andlicense from the ECE Registry (preferred)

• BC Certified Teacher with strong focus on early years/kindergartenschooleducation and/or special education with neurodiverse learners

• Behavioural Interventionist (BI) certification with BCBA (preferred)

• Literacy Specialist certification,Orton-Gillinghamcertification,orexperience teachingspecializedprogramswith young children

• Speech-LanguagePathology(SLP)or SLP-Assistanteducation and experience

• OccupationalTherapy(OT),OT-Assistant, or PhysicalTherapyeducation and experience

• Significant experienceworking with diverse preschool aged children and their families.

• Significant experienceleadinginteractivecircle/storytimeor similar group activitieswith young children.

Skills& Competencies

• Experience workingwithpreschool-agedchildren withundiagnosedor diagnosed learning differences and/or developmental delays

• Strong communicationskills, including beingcomfortablediscussingchild developmentandsupportstrategieswith parents/guardians

• Experiencecreating and deliveringinclusive,age-appropriate activities,games,orcrafts

• Experienceimplementingearlyinterventionstrategies,assessmentrecommendations,IndividualizedEducationPlans,and/or other types ofsupportplans

• Interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, ability toworkwithin an interdisciplinary team

• Demonstrated values alignment with our chartable mission, including strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices

• Some experience with assistive technologyormusic programmingis an asset

• Some experience withsign language, AACdevices, orother communication supportsis an asset.

• Ability to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening

Hours of Work:

• 
  LDS' Early RISErs program is offered in fall, winter, and spring cohorts witheachrunningfor a total of9sessions.Inwinterandspring,an afternoongroupisadded to theschedule.
• Fall - October 17 to December 12,2026-Saturdays 9:30amto 1:00pm (3.5hrs/week)
• Winter - January 9 to March 13, 2027 - Saturdays 9:30am to 4:30pm (6.5hrs/week)
• Spring - April 10 to June 12, 2027 - Saturdays9:30am to 4:30pm (6.5hrs/week
  

*Withadditionalhoursin Octoberforonboardingand trainingbeforethe programbegins.

**There are no sessions on long weekends.

Remunerationand Benefits:$30-33/hrfor contract work.
