Position Summary
As a Before & After School Child Care Assistant, you will help provide a safe, structured, and engaging environment for elementary-aged children at one of several on-site programs located within local elementary schools throughout the Katy Independent School District.
You will supervise children, assist with homework, facilitate enrichment activities, serve snacks, and help ensure every child has a positive experience before and after school.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide active supervision of elementary-aged children at all times.
- Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist children with homework and educational activities.
- Lead indoor and outdoor games, crafts, and enrichment activities.
- Serve snacks while following health and safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate attendance and accountability for all children.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and school staff.
- Support positive behavior using encouragement and age-appropriate guidance techniques.
- Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming program areas.
- Follow all applicable childcare licensing regulations, safety procedures, and organizational policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in a childcare center, school, camp, recreation program, church, or similar environment.
- Ability to successfully pass all required background checks in accordance with Texas Child Care Licensing requirements.
- Reliable transportation with the ability to support any of our nine Katy ISD program locations within approximately a 12-mile radius.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to actively supervise children in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Experience working with children with special needs.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Schedule
Monday – Friday
Morning Shift:
Approximately 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM (varies by campus)
Afternoon Shift:
Approximately 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Average weekly hours: 23–25
This position follows the school calendar and is part-time.
Candidates who are available to work BOTH the morning and afternoon shifts Monday through Friday will receive priority consideration. However, we welcome applications from candidates who are available for only one shift.

- Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
