These positions often require leadership skills, management experience, and sometimes a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related fields.

Why is there a childcare shortage?

The childcare shortage is driven by low wages, high staff turnover, and demanding schedules that make it difficult to attract and retain qualified Child Care Associates. Additionally, limited access to affordable training and certifications can hinder workforce growth in the industry.

What skills do child care associates need?

Child care associates need strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with children and parents. They should have patience, attention to safety, and basic knowledge of child development. Certifications such as CPR and first aid are often required or preferred, along with the ability to work flexible hours in a caregiving environment.

What Does a Child Care Associate Do?

In this career, you supervise activities to help with their development and coordinate schedules that ensure enough time for playtime, exercise, and rest. Your responsibilities also include monitoring the children and alerting parents to potential physical or emotional issues. Other duties vary with the age of the children, but you may provide some educational instruction or homework assistance.
