Koniag Technology Solutions (KTS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an exceptional Chief Solutions Architect to lead enterprise-wide architectural initiatives for complex federal government systems. This senior leadership position requires a visionary technologist who can design and oversee the implementation of large-scale, interconnected systems architectures while ensuring alignment with business objectives and federal compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks, cloud migration strategies, and modern security paradigms. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances to support KTS and our government customers.

The Chief Solutions Architect will serve as the principal technical authority for enterprise architecture, providing strategic direction and technical leadership across multiple complex federal programs. This role demands both visionary thinking and hands-on technical expertise to guide the transformation of legacy systems into modern, cloud-native architectures.


Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design and development of enterprise-level "System of Systems" (SoS) architectures encompassing 50+ interconnected applications and services
  • Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for large-scale system modernization initiatives
  • Architect comprehensive solutions for migrating legacy mainframe applications to AWS GovCloud environments
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across the organization
  • Design and implement Zero Trust security architectures that meet stringent federal compliance requirements (FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST frameworks)
  • Collaborate with C-suite executives, program managers, and technical leads to align technology solutions with business strategies
  • Conduct architectural reviews and provide guidance on complex technical decisions
  • Mentor and develop architecture teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategic technology investments
  • Create and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including technical designs, data flows, integration patterns, and system diagrams
  • Lead cross-functional teams through complex architectural challenges and system integration efforts
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with federal agency stakeholders and technical review boards
  • Ensure all architectural solutions meet security, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements
  • Drive the adoption of modern development practices including microservices, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Provide thought leadership on cloud architecture, DevSecOps, and enterprise integration strategies

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field from an accredited university
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Systems Architecture with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing "System of Systems" (SoS) architectures involving 50+ interconnected applications
  • Proven track record of successful enterprise-level cloud migrations, particularly from legacy mainframe environments to AWS GovCloud
  • At least one of the following certifications:
  • TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework)
  • FEAF (Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework)
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
  • Active or ability to obtain required security clearance

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, FEAF, Zachman) with practical application in federal environments
  • Deep expertise in AWS GovCloud architecture, including advanced services, security controls, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated success implementing Zero Trust security architectures in high-compliance federal agencies
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal cybersecurity frameworks (NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, FedRAMP, FISMA)
  • Advanced knowledge of microservices architecture, API management, and event-driven architectures
  • Extensive experience with legacy system modernization and mainframe migration strategies
  • Strong expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and understanding of modern development frameworks
  • Expert knowledge of database architectures (relational, NoSQL, data lakes, data warehouses)
  • Deep understanding of network architecture, including software-defined networking (SDN) and hybrid cloud connectivity
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS)
  • Strong knowledge of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline architectures
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences at all organizational levels
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to balance long-term vision with pragmatic, incremental delivery
  • Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing technical teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for complex, multi-system challenges
  • Experience working within Agile frameworks while satisfying federal project governance requirements
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Additional advanced certifications such as AWS Certified Security Specialty, CISSP, or DoDAF
  • Experience with multiple cloud platforms (Azure Government, Google Cloud)
  • Knowledge of AI/ML architecture and implementation patterns in federal environments
  • Experience with Service Mesh technologies (Istio, Consul, Linkerd)
  • Familiarity with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) or other enterprise agile methodologies
  • Experience with Defense or Intelligence Community IT environments and their unique requirements
  • Knowledge of DoD architecture frameworks and Department of Defense Enterprise DevSecOps Reference Design
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and master data management (MDM) architectures
  • Understanding of quantum computing implications for federal cryptographic systems
  • Published thought leadership (whitepapers, conference presentations, technical articles)
  • Experience with application portfolio rationalization and technology roadmap development
  • Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and ESB/iPaaS technologies
  • Familiarity with federal budget and acquisition processes (FAR, DFARS)
  • Experience working with FedRAMP authorized services and achieving ATO (Authority to Operate)
