Clinical Nurse Specialist Neonatal ICU

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an expert clinician who promotes and mentors staff in evidence-based practice and exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, research, and management activities. The CNS promotes and supports professional practice activities such as research, peer review and publication. The CNS has advanced knowledge, skills and experience and acts as a resource, mentor and teacher for nursing staff. Provides clinical support and resources for the RCH NICU, PEDS, and will work in collaboration with the OB Educator for Maternal Newborn and Labor and Delivery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring new nursing staff receive effective clinical orientation.
  • Problem-solving issues of clinical significance with managers and staff, promoting improvement in patient care and staff performance.
  • Interacting closely with the Education Department; assisting with continuing education by assessing learning needs based on practice changes, product changes, addition of new services, quality indicators/initiatives and staff requests.
  • Promoting and supporting professional development of the staff such as advanced education and/or specialty certification through mentoring and development and implementation of preparatory curricula.
  • Providing consultation and education to students, nurses and other health care providers.
  • Providing direct care by carrying a caseload of patients requiring continuum management.

Qualifications include:

  • Current California RN License
  • Current California Certification of Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Current BCLS
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Masters of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Clinical Specialty Training in specified clinical area
  • Minimum of 5 years Acute Care experience
  • Successful work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in NICU
  • Experience in the development of processes of clinical path development

It has the most extensive Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center in the Inland Empire region and is the primary recipient of STEMI (heart attack) cases in Riverside County.
