Responsibilities

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a vital member of the Senior Leadership team, overseeing all financial activities for Berkley Oil & Gas. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and directing functions such as accounting, financial reporting, information analysis, expense control, annual statements, and financial planning/forecasting. The CFO develops and enforces financial and accounting controls to ensure compliance with internal and external standards and plays a key role in strategic business planning to support the financial success of each operating unit.  

  • Serve as a strategic finance/operations leader and active member of the Senior Leadership team.
  • Partner with the President to accelerate execution, optimize outcomes and reduce costs.
  • Provide executive management with advice and analysis on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Provides leadership in the development and continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Directs the development and implementation of cost-effective financial reporting and accounting activities.
  • Formulates effective financial oversight and internal accounting standards that comply with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Contributes to the achievement of business objectives through the accurate and timely identification and resolution of accounting issues/opportunities.  
  • Directs the monthly reporting process and delivers accurate/timely monthly reports through effective utilization of all management information tools to optimize revenue and minimize financial exposure.
  • Manage and direct the expense and general ledger process. 
  • Monitors financial transactions to ensure that expenses are in line with company expenses and profit objectives and are consistent with company policies.
  • Drives innovation, including taking advantage of automation opportunities and new ways to streamline and make processes more efficient.
  • Development of direct and indirect reports in both behavioral and job skills is crucial and a key component of the position.  This includes regular career aspiration discussions.
  • Responds to all activities related to corporate accounting/reporting requirements.
  • Ensures that effective internal controls are in place and ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Provides high-level analysis and recommendations for corrective action as necessary. 
Qualifications
  • 10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles
  • Property & Casualty Insurance experience required, including experience in Statutory and GAAP insurance reporting.
  • PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment) and a strong working knowledge of all financial systems, preferably Oracle and Peoplesoft, and Excel is preferred.
  • Financial reporting and planning experience; expense management skills; expert financial analysis, reporting and accounting skills necessary to meet established and stretch business goals.
  • Familiarity with direct and agency billing
  • Able to recognize and act on reporting/accounting issues and problems.
  • Takes intelligent risks and exercises solid business judgment.
  • A proven leader who drives engagement and enables their employees. Will manage 3 direct reports.
  • Solid understanding of business objectives to drive bottom-line results; acts in a decisive manner to achieve appropriate results.
  • Strong strategic thinker and decision-maker; and consistently sets clear direction by defining goals and priorities; develops trust through demonstrated personal integrity.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages everyone to act in the best interest of the company.
  • Demonstrates strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to draft communications that are clear, concise, complete, and professional.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and demonstrate organizational skills while working on multiple projects.
  • Ability to travel as needed in the performance of duties.

Education Requirment

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance
  • MBA and/or CPA desirable
