Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION Under the general direction of the Chief Engineer, assist in supervising and overseeing all property and equipment preventive maintenance programs, repairs, life safety systems, and utilities at Shangri-La Resort & Golf Club. Preserve the good condition and functionality of the properties, buildings, grounds, and common areas to deliver the best possible guest experience.
REPORTS TO Chief Engineer
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Administration
  • Manage the department's daily operations by preparing and maintaining schedules, logs, records, and other documentation to ensure smooth operation and minimize liabilities.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in interviewing, hiring, training, and recommending performance evaluations.
  • Provide open communication, resolve problems, and assist in discipline and/or termination recommendations when appropriate.
  • Assist in on-the-job training of newly hired facility technicians.

Maintenance & Operations
  • Survey buildings and troubleshoot malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to ensure they meet operational expectations.
  • Carry out and oversee a consistent preventative maintenance program for both guest rooms and public areas.
  • Perform maintenance of electrical systems, including replacing light bulbs, sockets, and cleaning or repairing circuit breaker panels.
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and repair of ventilation, refrigeration, heating, and plumbing systems.
  • Conduct general upkeep procedures including painting, caulking, touch-ups, flowerbeds, and other grounds maintenance.
  • Keep all mechanical, electrical, and storage areas neat and orderly.
  • Utilize power tools, common appliance knowledge, and any other necessary devices to promptly accomplish projects in line with deadlines.

Guest & Departmental Support
  • Prioritize service requests, schedule, and monitor the services performed to ensure customer satisfaction, safety, and convenience.
  • Respond to all guest questions, concerns, and requests in an effective, prompt, and courteous manner.

Safety & Compliance
  • Test and examine all life safety systems and utilities to ensure they are always 100% operational.
  • Responsible for managing on-call emergency situations.
  • Ensure that guest safety is the top priority during inclement weather, including manual or mechanical snow removal.
  • Actively participate in Shangri-La's Safety Plan, identifying potential hazards and taking appropriate corrective action.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Education and Experience: Minimum 3-year experience in maintenance in a commercial environment. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a working form of communication (cell phone, landline, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing, alongside a working knowledge of all types of tools.
  • OSHA trained and able to strictly follow Health Department Guidelines.
  • Exhibit dexterity in the understanding of computer programs and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and maintain a pleasant demeanor while interacting with all types of guests.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work in all conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, and wet conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the associate is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to handle, feel, or operate tools and equipment; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally. The associate may occasionally be required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds. This role requires physical stamina, mental focus, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced hospitality environment while maintaining excellent guest service standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires work in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying climate conditions, mechanical rooms, and resort grounds.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation, with no felony or theft convictions.
