Job description

About the Campus:
The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It has a three-part mission: 1) to assist students in developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community; 2) to contribute to the community through student research, service, and leadership; and 3) to improve teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders. Woodlawn educates students in grades 6 - 12.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Office Clerk will provide administrative support in the main office by maintaining school and student records, answering phone calls, preparing correspondence and other written communication, receiving and responding to inquiries and requests, assisting with meetings and school events and other related duties. The position will work collaboratively with office personnel and serve as a resource for students, families, staff and visitors.
This is a temporary, full-time, benefits-ineligible position providing coverage for a leave of absence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Opening and closing the Main Office, stocking and performing inventory of office supplies
  • Managing the reception area to ensure effective and timely answering of the phone and ensuring the distribution of internal and external mail communications
  • Processing all incoming and outgoing mail by sorting as needed. Operating the postage machine and refilling the postage as needed
  • Greeting and directing visitors, addressing questions from parents and nurturing students
  • Providing administrative support to the campus directors as needed, which may include special projects
  • Maintaining school/student records and organizing files
  • Managing confidential information appropriately
  • Conduct periodic building checks for facility issues
  • Report maintenance issues to staff as needed
  • Assist with coordinating school special events (i.e. school assembly, parent/student events, professional development opportunities)
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years of administrative or clerical work experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience using PowerSchool and SchoolMint preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with various office equipment, including maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Typing skills of at least 40-50 words per minute required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders

Hourly Range
$18.50 - $22.00
The included pay rate or range represents the University of Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The salary will be commensurate of years of experience and education.
