Hours:  Mon-Thurs 10a-8p

Ascend is seeking a responsible and dedicated candidate to join our team of Vigil Aides to serve the greater Kansas City area. The perfect candidate will be someone who can provide a calm presence and has the ability to listen to and support family members as their loved one is at the end of life. Our Vigil Aides come along-side patients and families to offer presence, reassurance, and peace while helping to provide physical cares including personal hygiene, grooming, and repositioning. This is a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference for others at the end of life!

This Vigil Aide/Certified Home Health Aide will be responsible for, but not limited to:

1. Primary responsibility is to provide support to patients, families, and facilities by providing end of life vigil presence at bedside in either a home or nursing home setting
2. Provides compassionate bedside presence for patients who are deemed to be vigil appropriate/end of life by RN
3. Supports families through listening, educating, and by providing hospice presence as patient is actively dying
4. Collaborates with facility to ensure patient comfort, care, and support
5. Provides presence after death to support family and facility prior to funeral home arrival
6. At times, Vigil Aides may provide caregiver relief for families who need to step away from bedside
7. At times, Vigil Aides may be asked to help with showers or other patient care needs as directed
8. Provides or assists in ADL activities; personal hygiene, grooming, mouth, skin care and nails.
9. Provides assistance in toileting; positioning and transfer activities, frequent turning and positioning of a bed bound resident/patient.
10. Assists with the prescribed exercise and ROM activities which the resident/patient and Hospice aide have been taught by the Hospice Nurse.
11. Assists with light housekeeping of individual's personal unit or room, including changing of bed linen, if needed and patient laundry.
12. Feeds and assists with meals.
13. Obtains temperature, pulse and respirations as supervised by the Hospice Nurse.
14. Reports any changes in resident's/patient's condition to the Hospice Nurse and, if in a facility, to the facility nurse and documents the information on the Home Health Aide Certification of House form, including the date and time of the report and the person receiving the information.
15. Assists or reminds the patient to take medication, in compliance with regulations of appropriate regulatory and accrediting bodies.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Professional Experience:

• Must have a State Certified CHHA/CNA license
• Experience in hospice or home health, preferred
• No experience necessary but 1 year, preferred
• Must be willing to travel
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
