The Strategic Issues & International Litigation Group (SI&IL) is responsible for the oversight, evaluation, and management of complex, high-stakes litigation and investigations as well as business support for Chevron's Chief Strategy Officer, the Corporate Strategy function, Enterprise External Communications, and other business functions related to climate, strategy, and other complex and emerging legal, policy, and regulatory issues.

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Counsel/Senior Counsel, Corporate Strategy, on the SI&IL team through 6/25/ 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The position will be located either in Houston, TX. Requisition ID # R000071493

This position will report to the Supervising Counsel of Corporate Strategy and be part of a tightly integrated team reporting to the Chief Counsel for Strategic Issues & International Litigation. This Counsel/Senior Counsel role will serve as a key advisor to the Corporate Strategy function at Chevron, providing strategic legal guidance on matters of significance to the enterprise. Corporate Strategy is Chevron's enterprise-wide center for strategic direction, portfolio shaping, capital guidance, and decision analysis. This position includes advising the Corporate Strategy corporate disclosures team on navigating emerging requirements and leveraging litigation experience to advise on sustainability-related disclosures and advocacy across multiple U.S. and international jurisdictions. The role also includes assisting in managing a wide variety of complex litigation and investigations, with a primary focus on climate change litigation. The role requires strong legal and strategic judgment, outstanding collaboration skills, and the ability to drive high-quality outputs across cross-functional internal and external stakeholders. The Counsel/Senior Counsel is expected to be an involved, highly productive member of the SI&IL team and a key advisor to business partners. Strong analytical, problem solving, oral and written communication skills and good judgment are essential. The position requires an attorney with experience in complex, high-stakes litigation and with a commitment to learning and expanding his or her skill set and knowledge of integrated oil and gas operations. The ability to work closely and collaboratively with business clients, other in-house counsel, legal analysts, and external stakeholders is critical.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing strategic legal counsel to Chevron's Corporate Strategy function on matters of significance to the enterprise, including matters related to climate and sustainability
  • Client counseling and disclosure risk management in alignment with enterprise strategy and governance expectations
  • Driving legal support across multi-jurisdiction mandatory non-financial information disclosure workstreams
  • Developing briefing papers and advising on materials and issues presented to internal governance forums and executive leadership
  • Providing legal advice on policies, strategies and advocacy
  • Monitoring and giving guidance on litigation and enforcement matters and trends as well as legal, regulatory, and standards developments that impact mandatory disclosures
  • Advocating for Chevron's position on these issues
  • Partnering effectively with and helping manage outside counsel

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate and bachelor's degrees
  • Admission to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia*
  • Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly developed organizational and project management skills
  • Articulate, detail-oriented, and hard-working
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and business clients
  • Ability to work independently, but within a team-focused environment

* The successful candidate will need to meet the bar admission requirements in the jurisdiction of his place of work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a federal judicial clerkship
  • Minimum of 5 years of sophisticated legal experience
  • Experience in complex litigation
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Experience in providing legal counsel to business partners
