Lead Analyst, Tax (Technical and Transactional Tax)

Houston, TX, United States

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lead Analyst, Tax reports to the Director of Tax and serves as a key technical contributor within the Accounting and Tax department. This role is responsible for researching, evaluating, planning, and documenting the Company’s tax positions across federal, state, and international jurisdictions. The Lead Analyst will own transfer pricing documentation for cross-border intercompany transactions, monitor and support planning and compliance related to OECD Pillar Two rules. The successful candidate will be a self-directed, intellectually curious tax professional who is comfortable working through ambiguity, communicates complex issues clearly, and builds trust through sound judgment, rigorous analysis, and high-quality execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Monitor federal, state, and international tax legislation, regulatory guidance, and administrative developments relevant to the Company, and assess potential financial, operational, and compliance impacts.

Research and analyze federal and state income tax matters; prepare clear, well-supported technical memoranda documenting tax positions.

Evaluate indirect state tax matters, including sales and use tax and property tax, as business needs arise.

Own the preparation and maintenance of transfer pricing documentation for cross-border intercompany transactions, including detailed functional analyses.

Monitor OECD Pillar Two (GloBE) developments and jurisdictional adoption of income inclusion rules, undertaxed profits rules, and qualified domestic minimum top-up tax regimes; lead data gathering, calculations, documentation, and coordination required to support Pillar Two planning and compliance.

Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, and other stakeholders to evaluate tax implications of business initiatives, financing transactions, restructurings, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and other strategic projects.

Support federal and state tax examinations.

Lead or support special projects as needed, including process improvements, technical research initiatives, and cross-functional tax planning matters.

Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and international income tax principles, including the ability to apply those principles to business transactions and reporting positions.

Working knowledge of OECD BEPS/Pillar Two model rules, transfer pricing principles, and related documentation expectations.

Proficiency with tax research platforms, including Bloomberg Tax/BNA, Lexis, and RIA Checkpoint.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder inputs in a fast-paced environment without compromising accuracy.

Highly organized, with disciplined attention to detail, documentation quality, and follow-through.

Strong data management and modeling skills, including the ability to gather, validate, organize, analyze, and present large data sets.

Strong presentation and storytelling skills, with advanced PowerPoint capabilities and the ability to distill technical tax matters into concise, decision-useful materials.

Possesses judgment, communication skills, and ownership mindset to influence cross-functional stakeholders, guide junior team members or external resources as needed, and grow into broader leadership responsibilities over time.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

Education and Certifications: Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline. Master’s degree in accounting, Tax, or a related discipline is a plus. Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license highly preferred.

Experience: Minimum seven (7) years of progressive tax experience required, including Big 4 public accounting experience and/or relevant corporate tax experience. Experience in the energy, LNG, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive industries is preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS

Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints, and is often dependent on input from others.

Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.

May be required to work overtime.

Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
