About the Role:

The R&D Engineer plays a key role in the design, development, and successful introduction of new products, while also improving existing product lines. This position supports cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Fabrication, Supply Chain, Quality, and Sales by providing technical expertise, driving process improvements, and ensuring product quality and compliance.


Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Development & Innovation
  • Implement the R&D product innovation strategy designed to develop new products and improve existing products in conjunction with the Sales and Business Development strategies
  • Apply coatings formulations knowledge and experience to design innovative formulations, as well as optimize current formulations
  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to develop innovative solutions aligned with market needs
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications for raw materials used in belting products
  • Stay current on industry trends, materials, and technologies to identify new opportunities
Manufacturing & Process Optimization
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and product quality
  • Support production trials, testing, and reporting of results
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth product introduction and process implementation
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Perform chemical, physical, mechanical, and functional testing on raw materials and finished goods
  • Execute quality control testing (e.g., viscosity, solids content, density, heat stability, melt flow index, hardness, moisture content)
  • Develop and document standardized test procedures and protocols
  • Maintain accurate records of test results and provide real-time feedback to manufacturing
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Fabrication, Supply Chain, Quality, and Sales teams
  • Support ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements
  • Investigate customer complaints and returned goods; assist with claims processing and root cause analysis
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with raw material suppliers to ensure compliance with technical specifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS or BA in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering disciplines, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of research methodologies, data analysis, and statistical techniques.
  • Analyze existing production methods and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to scale up processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and ability to work cross-functionally with production teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Training and/or experience with polymers, plastics, PVC formulation, textiles, or material sciences
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification

Working Conditions

  • Regular computer use and written communication in English
