What is chemical sales?

Chemical sales refers to the business of selling chemicals and related products to various industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and research institutions. Professionals in chemical sales work with suppliers and customers to identify needs, provide technical information, negotiate pricing, and ensure timely delivery of products. They often need a strong understanding of chemistry, excellent communication skills, and knowledge of market trends. Chemical sales representatives play a crucial role in connecting chemical manufacturers with end users and supporting safe and effective product use.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a chemical sales representative?

To thrive as a Chemical Sales Representative, you need a solid understanding of chemistry, sales techniques, and industry regulations, often supported by a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software and knowledge of safety compliance systems are typically required. These abilities are crucial for effectively matching client needs with chemical solutions while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in a competitive market.

A common challenge in Chemical Sales is navigating complex regulatory requirements and ensuring all products and transactions comply with safety and environmental standards. Additionally, building trust with clients often requires deep technical knowledge of products and the ability to provide tailored solutions. Staying updated on market trends and competitor offerings is also crucial. Successful chemical sales professionals address these challenges by pursuing ongoing training, collaborating closely with technical and regulatory teams, and fostering strong, consultative relationships with their clients.

We value passion, energy, and enthusiasm to ignite transformation in our industry.
Start your career journey with ChemPoint!  Be part of our team that is transforming the chemical, ingredient, and industrial finished products industry.

Primary Purpose:

You will secure new business for specialty additives, primarily in durable goods, automotive, household&institutional and building&construction markets. You will also be able to target a wide range of markets and industry segments for these products. Sales goals are approached and achieved through formulation/application consultation with customers. You will use both reactive methods: inbound inquiry, internal consult calls, and proactive methods: call campaigns, cross selling, referrals, to meet your goals. This role uncovers deep market understanding and communicates that information back to our marketing team so we can proactively solve more problems.

What You'll Do:

  • Execute sales campaigns by performing targeted sales calls, interacting primarily with project specifiers and technical/R&D personnel to identify, test, and refine product value propositions and share results with the Product Manager.

  • Achieve customer-focused solutions and work toward product line goals by defining objective, environment, resources, and plan. Foresee and mitigates risks associated to customer/supplier needs and potential solutions.

  • Support Product Line growth by taking sales opportunities through the full sales cycle and providing additional technical support as needed after the new business is transitioned to an Account Representative for maintenance.

  • Develop and demonstrate technical proficiency: working closely with customers, technical supplier contacts and Product Managers.

  • Build and deliver Product and Industry training; provide product/application specific training as necessary for sales representatives.

  • Assist sales representatives with technical sales calls to support application development and make effective product recommendations.

  • Assist Product Manager in campaign strategy development by helping to create and refine campaign/product collateral (internal and online).

What You'll Need:

  • Science or Technical degree from fully accredited four-year institution or equivalent work experience is required; e.g. Chemistry, Biology, any Engineering discipline

  • 3+ years' sales or industry or product experience within relevant focus area

  • Experience and sound knowledge of using PC and Windows OS

  • Knowledge and experience working with MS Office Suite

  • Technical proficiency for select products and industry segments, with the ability to quickly learn

  • Technical product application, usage, and chemical process information

Where You'll Work:

This is a hybrid role based in Bellevue, WA and The Woodlands, TX.

Pay and Benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is $80,320 - $97,750 annually.

  • Strong work/life flexibility.
  • To be surrounded by an inclusive team who is collaborative and committed to the achievement of the company.
  • To be rewarded for your contributions with a quarterly sales incentive bonus and annual salary reviews.
  • Competitive pay and benefits.
