Position Overview
This opportunity is for a Project Engineer supporting small capital projects within a chemical or petrochemical plant environment. The Project Engineer will focus on delivering maintenance replacement projects safely, efficiently, and in line with applicable environmental, health, safety, legal, and code requirements. This Project Engineer position offers the chance to manage multiple assignments with project values ranging from $100K to $5MM. The role is well suited to candidates with strong project management capability and plant-based engineering experience who are looking to build further exposure in a technically demanding setting.
Role Context
This role is based at a facility in Geismar, Louisiana, within the chemical and petrochemical sector. The Project Engineer will work across small capital projects, primarily focused on maintenance replacements, and will act as a key link between engineering and operations. In-house and external design and engineering support is available as needed, providing a collaborative project delivery environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the liaison with operations to support effective project development and delivery.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for small capital projects.
  • Control project costs and support the optimisation of capital, operating, and engineering expenditure.
  • Ensure all project work complies with applicable client, regulatory, environmental, health, safety, legal, and code requirements.
  • Define and coordinate the work of engineering disciplines, including both in-house and contract support.
  • Review and approve technical drawings and vendor submittals, including flow sheets, isometrics, and layouts.
  • Prepare procedures, specifications, and bid packages to support project execution.
  • Specify, requisition, and expedite materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate construction activities and turnover to operations.
  • Communicate design and technical matters clearly through reports, memos, design documents, and presentations.
  • Support, direct, and review the work of lower-level technical staff where required.
  • Recommend actions to improve engineering quality and support the use of new engineering methods.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential: Degree-qualified engineer. Civil engineering is preferred.
  • Essential: At least 2 years of project engineering experience.
  • Essential: Minimum 2 years of experience in a chemical or petrochemical plant environment.
