Job description

Description

The Plant Operations Manager reports to the Location Manager and has direct responsibility for all activities that occur within the production facility. These activities include but are not limited to the receiving, storage, conditioning, treatment application, packaging, re-bagging and warehousing operations. The Plant Operations Manager works closely with the Location Manager to ensure that all processes are conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner, and that continuous improvement occurs in all areas of responsibility. The Plant Operations Manager works closely with the Field Operations Manager in order to ensure quantity and quality requests for each customer are met. Other essential job functions may include but not limited to:

  • Employee safety training and compliance to safety programs.
  • Hire, train, and supervise temporary & seasonal employees.
  • Provide daily supervision of full-time employees working within the production location.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System within the production facility.
  • Assist in coordinating delivery of bulk product.
  • Develop and communicate packaging schedules and customer packaging instructions to plant employees.
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance programs and schedules are followed on all facility equipment.
  • Ensuring accurate completion of processing work orders.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities to reduce equipment down-time, improve efficiency, improve employee safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Implementing preventative maintenance programs for all key plant and/or field equipment.
  • Maintaining an inventory of key parts and maintenance supplies to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  • Maintaining facility appearance in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • A 4-year college degree in Agriculture preferred but no mandatory
  • Agricultural background is beneficial
  • Computer skills required, advanced skills preferred
  • Understanding of seed production or minimum of four years of related experience
  • Excellent communications skills with positive attitude
  • Employee team building skills
  • Attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Well organized
