Job description

Job Purpose Statement:ย 

Maintenance Tech Iย position is a position that can be assigned to any of the roles of the below listed jobs at the manufacturing plant. The primary function of this position is for the employee to rotate between different jobs as business needs dictates-ย Electrician, Machinist,ย Mechanicย and Boiler Operatorย 

Required training will be given before being placed in a role.ย 

Summary of Responsibility for each relief role:ย ย 

Machinistย 

  • The primary function of this position is to fabricate, design, and redesign parts, repairย parts for all machinery in the plant.ย 

  • Will be assigned to the machine shop.ย 

  • Will be capable ofย operatingย all machine type equipment (lathes, drill press, grinders, mills, and saws).ย 

  • Will design and redesign parts for shop machining, repair &ย modifyย moldsย and hardware.ย 

  • Will fabricate parts.ย 

  • Will repair parts for the shop machinery.ย 

  • Will perform welding as needed.ย 

  • Will perform necessary paperwork on each job order.ย 

Electricianย 

  • The primary function of this position is to test, install, program, assemble, andย maintainย electronic equipment and components of processing operations of the plant.ย 

  • Will be familiar with the function and purpose of all electrical devices used within the plant.ย 

  • Willย assistย in the repair and/or replacement of mechanical equipment.ย 

  • Will be familiar with the National Electric Code Handbook.ย 

  • Will install, troubleshoot, and program computers used in processingย operation.ย 

  • Will be capable of operating shop machinery.ย 

  • Will use electrical test equipment.ย 

  • Will repair/replace and installย componentย of electricย devices.ย 

  • Will perform basic troubleshooting on electrical equipment.ย 

  • Will understand/troubleshoot electrical/electronic control systems.ย 

  • Will fabricate and install conduit systems.ย 

  • Will perform electronic maintenance on motors and controls.ย 

Boiler Operatorย 

  • The primary function of this position is toย maintainย the steam pressure, air pressure and hydraulic pressure needed to correctly cure tires, heatย oilย and heat the plant and the operation of plant equipment.ย 

  • Will checkย log bookย each day forย possible problemsย to be rectified.ย 

  • Will check compressors and add lubrication oil and check crank case level.ย 

  • Will blow the air dryer and air bundle by pushingย appropriate button.ย 

  • Checkย temperaturesย of the air compressor and cooling water level.ย 

  • Check lubricators to insure operation.ย 

  • Go to boiler - blow the water columns, bottom blow to get sediment out of boiler, mark down.ย 

  • Will do chemical tests.ย 

  • Check conductivity of boiler waterย 

  • Will add chemicals as needed.ย 

  • Will check pumps andย monitorย gauges.ย 

Mechanicย 

  • The major function of this position is to provide mechanical work, maintenance,ย reuildย services, and on-going repairs to the various machines in the plant.ย 

  • Will check each day for assignment to machines that are having mechanic problems.ย 

  • Willย be responsible forย overall repair and/or rebuild needed on shop machines.ย 

  • Will log machines for down time while working and repairing with his clock number.ย 

  • When finished, will log the machine back in.ย 

  • Rebuild -- taking specific machines of the line for worn out or modification maintenance.ย 

  • Floor coverage -- day to day maintenance of machines.ย 

  • P.M. Crew -- preventive/predictive maintenance procedures.ย 

  • Will also rebuild parts for various machines.ย 

  • Will alsoย be responsible forย assistanceย with electrical work.ย 

  • Will haveย abilityย to understand and repair electrical components of machines and plants.ย 

  • Must pass an in-house mechanical examination with a score of 70% or better.ย 

Education, Experience and Skills Required:ย ย 

  • High School diploma/GEDย required, or commit to obtain a GED withย Carlstarย sponsored GED program within 12 months of hireย dateย 

  • Certification as a Forklift Operatorย 

  • Three to fiveย years of Industrial experienceย 

  • Minimum of 1ย year in a manufacturing/distribution operationย preferredย 

  • Ability to work in aย fast pacedย environment while meeting production and quality goalsย 

  • Ability to obtain andย maintainย a valid forklift or equipment licenseย as needed orย requiredย 

Ergonomic & Physicalย Requirements: ย 

  • Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.ย 

  • Must pass company tests: Agility and Drug.ย 

  • Exertingย 200ย lbs. of force occasionally, and/orย in excess ofย 75ย lbs.ย frequentlyย and/orย in excess ofย 30 lbs. of force constantlyย to moveย objects.ย 

  • Stand 90 % and Walk 10 % of a normal day.ย 

  • Lift/Carryย 25ย lbs. toย 100 lbs.ย 

  • Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance, i.e. mechanical or individual.ย 

  • Push/pull:ย 50ย lbย constantly, up to 250lb occasionallyย 

  • Pinch minimumย 12ย lbs.ย ย Grasp minimumย 125ย lbs.ย 

  • Full range of motionย required:ย  Cervical, Shoulders, Elbow, Wrist, Fingers, Hands, Truck Twist, and Feet.ย
